Description:
Positions support the nurses and primary care providers (PCP) in patient needs. They could be working with in-patient, out-patient, and behavioral health patients. There will be a high volume of patients they will be meeting or speaking with daily.
Position Summary:
Responsible for the intake of information regarding the authorization of services for members of all product lines, including communication to the case managers. Works with the PCP, the member and management to promote the delivery of quality services at the most appropriate and cost-effective setting. Monitors members’ utilization patterns for identification of high-risk and under and over use of services. Clarifies benefits for providers.
MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH:
1. Intake and processing of authorizations for outpatient medical services for assigned product line(s).
2. Intake and processing of authorization of inpatient facility admissions for assigned product line(s), including concurrent review to facilitate discharge planning.
3. Reviews all utilization for most cost-effective delivery.
4. Monitors members utilization patterns.
Nice to Have:
5. Serves as a liaison between the Plan and providers to resolve referral issues, as directed
6. Processes follow-up calls to members for identified mailings to meet policies and regulatory guidelines as required.
7. Initiates review process under leadership direction.
8. Supports the network providers through education and periodic contacts as directed.
9. Assist Members and Providers with questions and concerns regarding member care needs.
10. Other duties as assigned or when necessary to maintain efficient operations of the department and the Company as a whole.
Patient volume:
- Typically 50 calls/day but could be as low as 30 calls/day and up to 100 calls/day
2 week training:
- 1st day is in person to pick up equipment on site - the rest of the 1st week is typically compliance training and onboarding
- 2nd week is 1:1 shadowing with an intake specialist trainer

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Must have:
- High School diploma or equivalent (this will need to be presented in onboarding)
- Two (2) years experience working in a medical practice office, an urgent care, hospital, skilled nursing facility or other health care setting and completion of a medical-related training program such as Medical Assistant, EMT or Nursing Assistant.
OR
- High School diploma or equivalent (this will need to be presented in onboarding)
- Three (3) years experience working in a medical practice office, an urgent care, hospital, skilled nursing facility or other health care setting.
Nice to have:
- CSR experience or front office experience
