Job Description
We are seeking a conscientious and hands-on Financial Systems Specialist who combines strong accounting knowledge, data automation, and intelligent reporting. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of accounting, systems, and analytics. The Financial Systems Specialist will play a key role in continuing to automate workflows and taking our already efficient, technology-enabled accounting operations to the next level.
Responsibilities
- Lead parts of the monthly accounting close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and management reports.
- Manage the fixed asset function, including additions, deletions, and depreciations.
- Handle various account accruals.
- Analyze existing workflows, and design and implement automation enhancements that improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Identify opportunities to apply AI tools and other emerging technologies to accounting workflows.
- Support clinical trial expense accruals, working closely with Clinical Operations to ensure accuracy and transparency in accounting.
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Document and maintain effective internal controls, ensuring compliance with company policies and SOX requirements.
- Carry out special projects as assigned.
- Data automation and system integration expertise.
- Proficiency in journal entry and reconciliation.
- 1-2 years of hands-on experience with NetSuite and Google Looker Studio, or other BI/reporting tools such as Tableau or Microsoft Power BI.
- Strong analytical skills, systems thinking, and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Solid understanding of US GAAP and internal accounting controls.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, with a minor in Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- 5-8 years of experience, ideally including experience in public or technical accounting.
- Familiarity with automation tools and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Exposure to clinical trial accruals or biotech/life sciences accounting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and critical thinking.
- Knowledge of accounting information systems and workflow optimization.
- Experience in biotech/life sciences preferred but not required; open to adjacent regulated industries such as Healthcare or Finance.
- CPA is not required.
