Individuals may be promoted from administrative operations positions to learn and become an entry writer.

Job Description
The Entry Writer is a key member of the customs brokerage team, responsible for the accurate and timely submission of customs entries for clearance of inbound cargo through US Customs and facilitating the delivery of freight to customers. This role requires good customer service skills as the Entry Writer serves as a customer advocate. Individuals may be promoted from administrative operations positions to learn and become an entry writer.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and transmit customs entries for CBP release of shipments.
- Receive and review documentation to input and transmit data for shipments.
- Follow standard operating procedures for each customer regarding entry preparation.
- Identify HTS details using product files on commercial invoices.
- Report completion of entry tasks and cargo release to the supervisor.
- Report exceptions to established clearance requirements to the supervisor.
- Organize work area to track the status of files through the CBP entry process.
- Confirm release details to customers through pre-established communication protocols.
- Meet key performance indicators (KPIs) for import operations.
- Track and trace shipments; coordinate with steamship lines, freight forwarders, and CFS for shipment availability.
- Arrange pick-up and delivery of freight with trucking companies.
- Coordinate delivery exceptions and special delivery instructions with supervisors.
- Handle accounting processes related to customs brokerage, including issuing invoices and processing payment requisitions.
- Experience in entry writing from brokerage (6 months to 2 years).
- Customs experience and proficiency with Cargowise.
- Strong team working skills and verbal reporting skills.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience with the relevant act is a plus.
