Role Description:

The Additive Manufacturing (AM) Data Analyst Intern will play a critical role in supporting our market intelligence efforts by focusing on the systematic collection, updating, and analysis of industry-specific data. This role provides hands-on experience with data acquisition technologies, robust data management, statistical analysis using modern tools (R, Excel), and effective data visualization. The intern will contribute actionable insights to the team by transforming raw, unstructured AM industry information into clear, data-driven intelligence.

Learning Objectives:

  • Mastery of Data Acquisition: Gain practical experience in developing and deploying web scraping technologies to efficiently and ethically collect publicly available data from diverse sources.
  • Data Cleaning and Management: Develop proficiency in data cleaning, manipulation, and standardization techniques using Microsoft Excel and R to prepare large, complex datasets for analysis.
  • Applied Data Analysis: Learn to apply fundamental statistical analysis methods (e.g., descriptive statistics, trend analysis) in R to extract meaningful patterns and insights about the AM industry.
  • Data Visualization and Reporting: Acquire skills in designing and creating impactful data visualizations and dashboards to communicate complex findings to non-technical stakeholders clearly and concisely.
  • Industry Knowledge: Build a foundational understanding of the Additive Manufacturing industry, including key players, market segments, technological trends, and regulatory landscape.

General Responsibilities:

  • Web Scraping & Data Collection (60%):
  • Design, implement, and maintain web scraping scripts to collect and regularly update information relevant to the AM industry (e.g., company profiles, technology specifications, market reports, news articles).
  • Data Processing & Analysis (30%):
  • Clean, structure, and merge collected data into a cohesive database using Excel and R.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis and trend analysis to identify significant patterns or shifts within the AM market.
  • Conduct data validation checks to ensure accuracy and integrity of all compiled information.
  • Reporting & Visualization (10%):
  • Create clear, compelling data visualizations (e.g., charts, graphs, dashboards) to summarize analytical findings.
  • Prepare and present a final summary of research and key insights to the internal team.

Education:

  • Must be enrolled in a related Bachelor’s degree program as a rising Junior or Senior at an accredited College or University.

Key Requirements & Competencies:

  • Technical Proficiency:
  • Demonstrated experience or coursework in web scraping technologies (e.g., basic Python scripting is highly preferred).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, advanced formulas) for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn R for statistical computing and data analysis.
  • Analytical Skills: Proven ability to approach complex problems systematically, analyze large datasets, and derive meaningful insights.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to data collection, cleaning, and reporting to ensure high accuracy.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present technical data in a business context.
  • Initiative: A proactive, self-starter attitude with a strong interest in the Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) industry.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent and close visual work at desk or computer.
  • Frequent sitting and working at desk.
  • Frequent verbal and written communication with team and other stakeholders by phone or video conferencing.

Time Requirements & Compensation:

  • Remote
  • 35 hours per week, June through August. 
  • Compensation: $18.00/Hour
