This position is part-time: 48 hours per biweekly pay period, 12-hour night shifts, with every 3rd holiday and weekend rotation schedule. Some responsibilities of the Inpatient/OB2 RN include, but are not limited to the following:
- Coordinates the nursing plan of care with the medical orders to provide safe patient care. Uses and documents the nursing process to provide individualized patient care. Observes, documents and reports to the physician subjective/objective patient data in an accurate and timely manner for medical-surgical, labor delivery, and newborn patients.
- Assists the physician with examinations and procedures for safe patient care on the Inpatient medical-surgical and OB departments.
- Safely administers treatments, performs nursing procedures, maintains, and safely uses therapeutic equipment to carry out provider orders which relate to the practice of nursing for medical-surgical, labor delivery, and newborn patients.
- Actively provides nursing care to laboring mothers and monitors laboring process with the backup of a Primary OB nurse. Provides safe individualized pain management through a multidisciplinary approach, as needed. Performs delivery preparations indicated, i.e., IV’s and pain management options.
- Uses and maintains equipment in obstetrical areas, i.e., fetal heart monitor, infant warmer, oxygen supplies, birthing bed, and stocks supplies to ensure safe, effective patient care.
- Sets up room for delivery and assists the physician in delivery care for the newborn. Scrubs in and assists in care of infant in C-section deliveries.
- Conducts and documents patient teaching and discharge instructions with patient, partner and significant others and appropriate health care providers to ensure safe continuity of care, i.e., OB Home Health Care and Public Health.
- Maybe required to float with consideration given to skill, experience, and competency level and based on organizational needs. Refer to the Life Support and Resuscitation Training requirements policy for unit specific training and certification standards.
Education and experience required:
- Current licensure as Registered Nurse (RN) in Minnesota
- Maintain active BLS Certification
- TNCC, CALS, NRP, STABLE, and ALSO training or in-house training that meets trauma system criteria OR ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.
