What are the responsibilities and job description for the Radiation Therapist position at Astera Health?
Astera Health currently has a full-time Radiation Therapist opening at the Astera Health/CentraCare Coborn Cancer Center in Wadena, MN.

Some responsibilities of the Radiation Therapist include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provides care and treatment for patients in accordance with department standards, policies, and procedures.
- Responsible for the operation of all Radiation Oncology equipment: linear accelerators, simulator, and other related therapy accessories.
- Responsible for accurate and complete documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Provides safe, ethical and professional care for patients with sensitivity to their needs, utilizes infection control principles and sterile techniques as required.
- Assists the Radiation Oncologist to simulate setup fields for patients to be treated.
- Responsible for accurate and complete documentation of all simulation parameters needed for treatment and procedures.
- Assists the physics staff in performing simple QA checks to assure accuracy of simulated setups.
- Responsible for reporting malfunctions of Radiation Oncology equipment as identified per unit standard.
- Responsible for adherence with Minnesota Department of Health standards for radiation safety.
- Actively participates in performance improvement activities.
- Participates in the operation of the unit to include accurate and timely scheduling, charging of patient activity and ordering of tests/procedures.
- Performs basic dose calculations for treatment of patients.
- Understands custom blocks for all types of treatments.
- May provide cross-coverage at all CCH radiation sites.
- Perform patient setup in CT for treatment planning.
- Actively participates in patient conferences, department meetings, committees and task forces. May lead education on various subjects related to radiation therapy.
- Assists in scheduling and coordinating brachytherapy or special procedures.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Medium Duty: exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects (based on U.S. Department of Labor data). The following physical activities are required to perform this job:
Occasionally (up to 33% of work time): Standing, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, smelling, color vision.
Frequently (34-66% of work time): Walking, carrying, stooping, reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, near acuity vision.
- Graduate from a Radiation Therapy education program.
Licenses / Certifications:
- Certified by the American Registry for Radiation Therapists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy or registry eligible required. Must become certified within one year of hire.
- Maintain active BLS Certification
Experience:
- Experience in radiation therapy; Or combined years of relevant education and experience to perform the essential duties of this position.
