MINNEAPOLIS LOCK & KEY FIELD APPRENTICE
PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to develop a skilled locksmith through hands-on experience in the shop and exposure to field work. The Locksmith Apprentice supports the shop day to day operations, assist customers at the counter, and contributes to field job preparation and repair projects – all the while learning the trade and building a foundation for long term growth.

JOB DUTIES & EXPECTATIONS
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
COUNTER LOCKSMITHING AND REPAIR SERVICE
- Re-keying locks (Commercial, Residential, & Automotive).
- Troubleshooting and repairing locks.
- Cutting keys and working with master key systems.
ASSIST WITH DAY-TO-DAY SHOP WORKFLOW
- Backup on shop email communication.
- Customer service and sales at store counter.
- Answer incoming shop calls.
- Assist with general shop and showroom floor upkeep including cleaning, stocking, and organizing.
- Assist with key records management including creating and maintaining records of key systems for easy reference and future maintenance.
- Ensure customers (internal and external) are up to date with progress expectations including parts ordering and delivery, and job completion.
LEAD OR ASSIST JOB PREP FOR FIELD, SHOP, & WALK-IN CUSTOMERS
- Lead or assist with job prep for projects large and small from walk-in customers, field service and projects, or general shop orders ensuring prep is completed timely to meet the customer’s needs.
- Keep all customers (internal or external) up to date with progress expectations at the beginning of each project and at least weekly for projects waiting on back-orders or other delays.
SKILLSET DEVELOPMENT
- Take an active role in your professional growth by developing the skills, knowledge, and confidence to become a well-founded locksmith.
- Utilize internal and external resources to build your capabilities and increase independence, allowing operations to run more efficiently.
- Develop locksmithing fundamentals through counter duties including, but not limited to:
- Re-keying locks
- Troubleshooting and repairing locks
- Cutting keys and working with master key systems
- Assist field technicians on service and installation jobs, learning from their experience and techniques.
- Train on locksmith service calls (rekeys, key cutting, lock outs, troubleshooting, etc).
- Pursue manufacturer certifications and product-specific training as skills advance.
- Collaborate with Shop Manager to identify growth opportunities and create a development plan that supports career progression.

- More than 2 years of previous work experience
- HS Diploma
PREFERRED
- Familiarity with residential and/or antique hardware.
- Previous work experience in trades, repair or manufacturing
- Previous work experience requiring mechanical aptitude.
- Bilingual (Either English/Spanish or English/Somali)
