Founded in 1971, the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) is a non-profit 501(c)(6) professional association whose members are professionals involved in the management of law firms, corporate legal departments and government legal agencies. ALA is dedicated to supporting, educating, and uplifting its members to succeed as leaders in the legal industry.
OVERVIEW:
This role oversees the full financial ecosystem of the association, including accounting operations, budgeting, forecasting, billing, collections, cash flow analysis, banking relationships, and financial systems. The CFO will lead the Finance Department, strengthen financial infrastructure, drive performance improvement, and support the firm's continued growth.
DUTIES:
- Advises the Executive Director and Board of Directors on financial strategy, long-range planning, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
- Directs all accounting and finance operations, including general ledger management, payroll imports, budgeting, billing, accounts payable and receivable, trust accounting, and month end close.
- Manages banking relationships, line of credit renewals, cash flow planning, wire activity, account transfers, and positive pay controls.
- Leads annual budget development, forecasting, and multiyear financial modeling.
- Oversees Finance Department staffing, performance, and professional development.
- Ensure alignment with organization's goals, operational standards, and service expectations.
- Ensures compliance with GAAP, internal controls, regulatory reporting requirements, and industry specific financial standards.
- Oversees 1099 reporting, audit preparation, vendor contracts and payment controls, and financial risk mitigation activities.
- Monitor departmental budgets and provide financial guidance to department leaders.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance or Business Administration
- 10 years of progressive finance experience; 5 years in management
- Ability to create and implement initiatives in a timely manner
- Ability to communicate effectively orally, visually and written
- Ability to make presentations, pitches and data analysis to various groups
- Ability to work collegially in a diverse, hybrid environment
- Demonstrated progressive leadership and/or supervisory skills
- Experience with our Finance platforms (NetSuite and/or Ramp in particular) a plus.
Salary range: $117,000 - $125,000
