Editor-in-Chief or Co-Editors, Review of Social Economy

The Association for Social Economics (ASE) invites applications and nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief or Co-Editors of the Review of Social Economy (RoSE). The current aims and scope of RoSE, for reference, are available here.

The incoming Editor-in-Chief or Co-Editors will have an important opportunity to shape the next phase of the journal’s development. Working with ASE, the successful candidate(s) will lead efforts to strengthen editorial processes, broaden international reach, and expand the geographical, intellectual, methodological, and institutional range of scholarship.

Editorial Responsibilities

The Editor-in-Chief or Co-Editors will provide overall intellectual and administrative leadership for RoSE. The Editor-in-Chief or Co-Editors will be supported by Associate Editors, an editorial board, Taylor & Francis staff, and the ASE Publications Committee. 

Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief or Co-Editors include:

• articulating and advancing the journal’s intellectual vision in a manner consistent with its commitment to interdisciplinary and pluralistic scholarship while positioning RoSE as a complement to the Association’s other journal Forum for Social Economics;
• developing clear and consistent editorial policies and workflows;
• recruiting associate editors, an advisory board, authors, and reviewers while ensuring and expanding the diversity of subject areas and methodological approaches;
• overseeing the receipt, assignment, and disposition of submitted manuscripts and making final editorial decisions that are timely, fair, transparent, and supported by rigorous peer review;
• monitoring submission patterns, review times, acceptance rates, publication pipelines, and other indicators of journal performance;
• encouraging submissions from geographical regions, institutions, scholarly traditions, and communities that have historically been underrepresented in economics publishing;
• identifying opportunities for special issues, symposia, invited contributions, review essays, or other initiatives that advance the journal’s mission;
• promoting RoSE and its published scholarship through conferences, professional networks, digital outreach, and other venues;
• serving as RoSE’s representative on ASE’s Executive Council and completing other duties as prescribed in the ASE’s By-Laws (e.g., chairing one of the Association’s award committees and selecting and presenting award recipients);
• hosting regular editorial board meetings and maintaining regular communication with the ASE Publications Committee; and
• preparing and presenting annual reports on the journal’s activities, performance, challenges, finances, and strategic priorities.

Qualifications and Priorities

Applicants should have a strong record of scholarship in social economics or in fields closely connected to the journal’s aims and scope. Candidates should demonstrate the scholarly standing, professional judgment, organizational capacity, and collaborative leadership necessary to manage an international peer-reviewed journal.

Prior experience as an editor, co-editor, associate editor or editorial board member, is strongly preferred. ASE will also consider applicants whose broader scholarly leadership experience provides evidence of their readiness to assume the position.

The successful candidate or editorial team should demonstrate:

• a compelling vision for the future of RoSE;
• an ability to evaluate and oversee scholarship in social economics across different theoretical traditions, methodological approaches, and geographical contexts;
• the organizational and communication skills to manage manuscript flows and an editorial team with commitment to publication ethics and research quality and integrity;
• ideas for strengthening the journal’s reputation, authorship, readership, submissions, influence, and international reach.

Consistent with ASE’s goal of broadening participation in its journals, applications are strongly encouraged from scholars representing diverse geographical regions, institutional settings, disciplinary backgrounds, theoretical and methodological traditions, career pathways, and lived experiences. ASE particularly welcomes candidates who can strengthen the journal’s connections with scholarly communities and regions that historically have been less represented in economics publishing and editorial leadership.

Applicants need not currently be members of ASE but will be expected to become members upon appointment and to support the Association’s mission of advancing research on the relationships among economics, ethical values, social institutions, human dignity, and social justice. ASE views this search as an opportunity to build upon RoSE’s distinguished history while welcoming new ideas, new perspectives, and broader participation in the journal’s leadership. ASE encourages applications from established scholars as well as collaborative editorial teams whose complementary expertise and shared vision can help RoSE thrive as an inclusive, rigorous, internationally engaged, and intellectually pluralistic journal.

Applications should include:

1. a letter of no more than three pages describing interest in the position, relevant editorial and scholarly experience, vision for RoSE, and proposed priorities for the journal;
2. a current curriculum vitae; and
3. the names and contact information of three references.

Appointments should ideally begin by December 15, 2026. The appointment will be for an initial term of three years, renewable by mutual agreement.
