The Opportunity
We’re hiring a Staff Accountant to support the monthly close and day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of not-for-profit clients. You’ll partner with Senior Accountants and Controllers to maintain clean reconciliations and workpapers, help produce timely internal financial statements, and contribute to budgeting and forecasting processes—building a strong foundation in not-for-profit finance.
What You’ll Do
· Support monthly close activities for assigned clients: prepare journal entries, accruals/deferrals, and the supporting schedules.
· Perform bank and credit card reconciliations; investigate variances and maintain accurate, well-organized workpapers.
· Assist with monthly internal financial statements (balance sheet, P&L, cash flow, budget vs. actuals, departmental/program reporting) and draft variance analysis.
· Help manage revenue and expense operations: dues and membership revenue, sponsorships, events/conferences, grants, and contributed revenue; support AP/AR and expense management.
· Support not-for-profit (NFP) accounting tasks: track grants/awards and restricted activity; assist with release-from-restriction schedules and fund/program reporting.
· Support budgeting and forecasting: help build annual budgets, maintain rolling forecasts, and update cash forecasts and scenario models as needed.
· Systems and data support: maintain general ledger and chart of accounts; assist with accounting tech tools; follow and improve close checklists and documentation standards.
· Teamwork and client service: collaborate with engagement teams, communicate status and questions promptly, and contribute ideas to improve processes across clients.
What You’ll Bring
· Education/Certification: Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance required; CPA-track a plus.
· Experience: 1-3 years of accounting experience; not-for-profit exposure (associations/mission-driven organizations) is a plus. experience in BILL, Ramp, Concur or similar.
· Technical: Working knowledge of US GAAP; strong reconciliation discipline; proficient Excel/Google Sheets; experience with QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, Salesforce, Ramp, or similar a plus.
· Communication: Detail-oriented and organized; able to write clear workpapers and ask thoughtful questions; comfortable working with deadlines in a client-service environment.
· Mindset: Eager to learn, takes ownership of assigned tasks, and enjoys collaborating across a portfolio of clients.

Logistics
· Location: Remote/hybrid (Toms River, NJ U.S.). Minimal travel as needed for clients or team events.
· Work Authorization: Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
· Compensation Range: Provide your expected range; we’ll calibrate based on location and experience.
