Responsible for the purchase, proper inventory control and rotation of all Deli/Bakery/Meat and related items for sale to member retailers.
Inventory Management & Purchasing
- Monitor and assess inventory levels to ensure optimal service levels and product turns.
- Place and manage orders using computer systems.
- Make informed daily buying decisions based on market conditions, trends, and pricing.
- Review and maintain all assigned items, including pricing, A Maps, E.B.A.s, and pre-booked items.
- Calculate quantities, gains, and losses related to price changes using basic math skills.
- Stay informed on product details, pricing, and market trends to make effective decisions.
- Communicate effectively with vendors and member stores via phone and email to place orders, provide pricing, resolve issues, and negotiate truckload buys.
- Respond promptly to and resolve any vendor or store concerns.
- Schedule Deli/Bakery/Meat truck deliveries with the warehouse and traffic departments to ensure proper quantities and freshness.
- Verify accuracy of daily receiving documents, accounts payable vouchers, and supply invoices.
- Maintain accurate computer records for all assigned items and pricing.
- Ensure all required documentation and reports are complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
- Operate standard office equipment such as calculators, copiers, and fax machines.
- Demonstrate strong computer skills and the ability to learn new technologies.
- Collaborate as a member of the AWG team, demonstrating cooperation, integrity, and professionalism with members, associates, and management.
- Keep management informed of plans, performance, and results.
- Proficient in basic and intermediate math, including:
- Discounts, percentages, commissions, and proportions
- Basic algebra and geometry
- Measurement concepts (area, volume, etc.)
- Able to read and understand documents like safety rules, manuals, and procedures.
- Able to write clear reports and business correspondence.
- Comfortable speaking in front of groups, such as customers or coworkers.
- Preferred: Experience in grocery retail or grocery wholesaler.
- A degree is not required if equivalent work experience is present.
- Minimum 3 years of related experience, ideally in retail or wholesale grocery.
- Management experience of at least 3 years is preferred.
