The Lead Food Service Student Assistant is a part-time, non-benefited position under the direct supervision of the Food Program Supervisor. The Lead plays a key role in ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently and that meals are prepared and served in compliance with the CACFP guidelines. The Lead is responsible for training new Food Service Student Assistants and ensuring the kitchen maintains and clean and organized environment. Educational Requirements and Qualifying Experience- Must be a currently enrolled student at Cal Poly with a minimum of 6 units. Graduate students must carry 4 units
- Ability to stay focused while working in a high-volume, fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Display a high level of attention to detail and strong record-keeping skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates critical thinking, conflict management, and problem-solving skills.
- Previous Food Service Student Assistant experience preferred.
- Food service or nutrition coursework preferred.
- Efficiently manage multiple tasks at once while maintaining the quality of program.
- Work collaboratively with Food Service Student Assistants and Food Program Supervisor.
- Adapt to changing priorities and remain flexible.
- Pass fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice.

- Monitor the workflow and daily tasks of the Food Service Student Assistants in cooperation with the Food Program Supervisor.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Food Program Supervisor regarding the work performed in the kitchen and areas for improvement.
- Lead and work alongside the Food Service Student Assistants in the preparation of meals including allergies and family preferences.
- Ensure that meals prepared adhere to all CACFP guidelines.
- Provide training and support to Food Service Student Assistants on kitchen duties and food safety procedures.
- Attend and assist in the planning of annual staff training and periodic staff development opportunities.
- Help cover shifts as needed.
- Establish and maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for all staff and customers.
- Provide quality customer service and maintain a positive, cooperative relationship with staff, coworkers, and customers.
- Demonstrate a commitment to student development and leadership, ensuring all student-led responsibilities are understood and performed.
- Display leadership by providing oversight for all aspects of food production, flow, sanitation, and kitchen management.
- Assist with food preparation according to menu production worksheets and standardized guidelines, ensuring meals are delivered on time in a safe and sanitary manner.
- Ensure accurate freezer pulls, completion of daily prep, and maintain up-to-date production records, prep sheets, and forms
- Maintain accurate daily milk count and temperature logs and generate necessary reports within the KidKare software.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of food program related equipment.
- Maintain an awareness of safety concerns and risk management and follow the evacuation plan for the work area.
- Attend all mandatory meetings.
- The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in ASI policy as a condition of their employment.

Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at any time and ASI may discharge the employee at any time with or without cause.
Compensation and Hours- Hourly Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour.
- Hourly Pay Range: $17.00 per hour - $17.00 per hour
Requires Summer Availability
Requires a minimum of 3 consecutive quarters
