The 401(k) Analyst is a vital member of our Retirement Plan Services team, providing essential analytical, administrative, and client service support. This role is responsible for the day-to-day operations of our clients' retirement plans, ensuring they are administered accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and passionate about helping clients manage effective retirement benefit programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Client & Plan Administration:
- Serve as a key point of contact for a dedicated block of clients, responding to inquiries regarding plan provisions, contributions, distributions, and compliance matters.
- Communicate with Client regarding employee education, meeting scheduling and meeting minutes.
- Facilitate plan-level transactions, including distributions, rollovers, loans, and Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs).
- Assist with the onboarding of new clients and the implementation of new retirement plans.
- Compliance & Reporting:
- Prepare and review new client documentation and new client onboarding.
- Prepare and review annual reporting documents, including Form 5500 filings and supporting schedules, in collaboration with senior team members.
- Monitor plan operations to ensure adherence to plan documents and ERISA regulations.
- Stay current on legislative and regulatory changes affecting qualified retirement plans.
- Analysis & Investment Support:
- Prepare quarterly and annual investment monitoring reports for client review meetings, analyzing fund performance, fees, and asset allocation.
- Assist senior consultants in conducting plan design analysis, benchmarking studies, and vendor fee comparisons.
- Generate custom reports and financial models to support client decision-making and strategic plan reviews.
- Vendor & Participant Engagement:
- Act as a liaison between clients, recordkeepers, third-party administrators (TPAs), and auditors to resolve issues and ensure seamless plan operation.
- Support the coordination of employee education meetings and the development of communication materials to drive participant engagement and financial wellness.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field is required.
- 2-5 years of direct experience in 401(k) plan administration, compliance, or a related role at a brokerage, TPA, recordkeeper, or consulting firm.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of ERISA, DOL, and IRS regulations governing qualified retirement plans.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, complex formulas).
- Experience with retirement plan recordkeeping platforms (e.g., Fidelity, Schwab, Empower, Principal) and/or compliance software (e.g., Relius, Ft William) is highly preferred.
- Soft Skills:
- Exceptional analytical skills and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to explain complex topics clearly and concisely.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, capable of managing multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously.
