JOB TITLE: Director of Workforce Development

FLSA STATUS: Exempt, Salaried

JOB STATUS: Full-Time, At-will

SUPERVISOR: AGC of Utah President/CEO

SALARY RANGE: $70,000 - $80,000 ( Benefits)

LOCATION: Salt Lake City, UT (Statewide Travel Required)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The Associated General Contractors of Utah (AGC) is a full-service, non-profit, member-oriented trade association supporting the commercial construction industry across all of Utah. All employees are expected to serve the needs of the membership above and beyond the scope of all other assigned dues and are called upon to actively parcipate in efforts to recruit new members; retain and serve existing members, including assisting with member events and other association functions; and advance a positive public image of the organization, its members, and the construction industry.

In addion, the AGC of Utah maintains a strong team-oriented approach to all that it accomplishes. JOB OVERVIEW:
This document reflects the AGC of Utah’s best effort to describe the essential functions and qualifications of this position. The content of this document is not intended to be an exhausve list of all responsibilities, dues, and skills required for the individual position.

The AGC of Utah is looking for a dedicated and dynamic leader with experience in the construction industry and/or workforce development to expand the organization's ongoing efforts to attract and retain talent at all levels of the industry. The position will work with contractors, educators, state agencies and others to plan, organize, implement, and manage the organization’s Talent Pipeline Management projects across the entire state.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong personal communication skills and the ability to represent the organization professionally in both group and one-on-one settings. They will have experience planning, organizing, and implementing complex projects and demonstrate the ability to persuade and inspire.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

1. Statewide Strategy & Industry Leadership
- Works directly with AGC of Utah members and other contractors to assess their talent needs in an effort to develop a plan to assist industry members in achieving their workforce goals in coordination with a larger, state-wide, industry-specific effort.

- Coordinates with employers and other partners including state and federal agencies, educational institutions at the secondary and post-secondary levels, and others to deliver training in response to industry needs.

- Represents the AGC of Utah and the Utah construction industry at events, conferences, task force meetings, and other opportunities related to workforce development.

- Maintains a strong knowledge of Utah’s workforce development programs and forges relationships on behalf of the AGC of Utah and its members.

- Actively engages and persuades employers and industry partners to maximize their utilizaon of available resources – including new methodologies or programs – in furthering their workforce efforts.

- Actively manages and staffs the AGC of Utah participation in career fairs and other gatherings as part of an ongoing effort to promote a career in construction to a broader audience.

- Strengthen workforce development connection within and between local education, employers, work-based learning activies, economic development, and workforce development efforts.

- Become an expert in the Utah landscape of education (secondary, workforce training, and postsecondary), work-based learning, economic development, and workforce development.

2. Construction Pathways
- Works with school administrators, educators and counselors to build a statewide network and to promote construction as a viable alternave to a tradional college educaon.

- Works with individual school districts and other educational institutions to further the adoption and creation of Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) type programs in Utah.

- Lead the efforts in uniting the construction industry as a unified voice and collective of information and resources for contractors statewide.

3. Administration/Supervision
- Makes significant contributions to the AGC of Utah’s ongoing effort to provide training opportunies for its members including assisting the development, organization, and delivery of courses on a wide range of subjects.

- Works with other AGC of Utah team members to ensure that the organization’s AMS remains up-to-date and accurate.

- Provides supervision to administrative personnel responsible for data entry, calendar of trainings, training delivery, and numerous offsite activies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education and Experience

- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited insitution in a workforce- or construction- related field of study preferred; and

- Four years or more of experience in a workforce development-related activity (preference given to activies connected to the construction industry).

2. Licenses, Certificates, Registrations
- Valid Utah drivers’ license
- Ability to complete a background check once hired

3. General Competencies

- Proficient in current computer technology with emphasis on PC and web-based applications and a working knowledge of current versions of MS Windows operang systems and the MS Office Suite.

- Demonstrates the proven ability to work independently in a professional team environment.

- Easily exercises excellent oral and writen communication skills.

- Proficient in time management for both themselves and those they supervise. Must demonstrate that they can concurrently manage multiple projects with competing deadlines successfully.

- Experience creating work plans, both verbal and written, especially for public presentations and training.

- Proven ability to develop and implement annual and long-range strategic plans, goals, and strategies.

- Ability to quickly grasp organization and workforce structure and processes of a variety of organizations.

- Ability to influence individuals and organizations to parcipate in the program and is willing to commit reputation and resources to making the program succeed.

- Proven ability to develop or expand a network through “cold calls” to introduce the program and persuade individuals/organizations to parcipate.

- Ability to inspire decision-makers and build consensus.

- A life-long learner who is able to grasp new programs and processes quickly and situate them into the larger picture.

4. Customer Service
- Demonstrated excellence in customer service delivery.

- Demonstrated ability to manage difficult or emotional customer situations and achieve a posive outcome.

- Experience in solicing customer feedback and proactively responding to customer needs.

- Experience collaborating with interest groups to find mutual purpose, compromise, and shared results.

- Experience facilitating discussions, negotiating, and resolving conflict.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

- Physically able to lift and handle up to 30 pounds
- Ability to perform duties while standing, sitting, bending, and kneeling
- Work weekdays between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm
- Flexibility to work additional hours when necessary
- Flexibility to travel regularly

COMPENSATION:
The AGC of Utah offers all team members a complete compensaon package that includes:

- Competitive salary to be determined based on experience
