JOB SUMMARY:

This position is managed by leadership in Salt Lake City, Utah, but the position will be based in Grand Junction, Colorado. The Center Store Operational Specialist serves stores in Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico and plays a vital role in supporting store directors and managers in the grocery and general merchandise departments. This position involves advising on programs, procedures, and changes in division policies while conducting audits of policy adherence and program implementation at the store level. The Specialist will report findings to sales merchandise managers or the regional director. This role requires travel, including potential overnight stays and the use of a personal vehicle for transportation.

Key Responsibilities

• Order Management: Write orders for center store products that reflect gross potential and enhance company value.
• Merchandising Strategy: Plan and implement aggressive merchandising and promotional programs aimed at increasing sales, including display ideas and new product placements, while ensuring effective use of schematics and shelf space.
• Inventory Control: Maintain effective oversight of department labor and inventory, ensuring alignment with established budgets and guidelines.
• Training & Development: Provide coaching and training to center store personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in operations.
• Inventory Expertise: Understand the inventory process thoroughly and assist stores in optimizing inventory management.

Required Skills, Education, and Experience

• Retail Experience: A background in retail is essential; experience as a Store Director or Assistant Store Director is preferred.
• Specialty Foods Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of specialty foods is necessary for effective operations and merchandising.
• Schematic Proficiency: Strong understanding of schematics, their purpose, and the ability to create effective schematics for product placement.
• Effective Communication: Ability to communicate policies, procedures, and desired standards both verbally and in writing.
• Operational Experience: Proven experience in managing profitable center store operations and executing successful merchandising strategies.
• Problem-solving skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address challenges effectively.
• Self-motivated: Must be proactive and self-driven to achieve goals.
• Relationship Building: Ability to foster positive relationships with vendors and store personnel, including training, coaching, and mentoring others.
• Creativity & Innovation: Aptitude for developing creative and innovative solutions to enhance store operations.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required.
• Basic Math Skills: Competency in basic math is essential for order management and inventory control.
