What are the responsibilities and job description for the Apprenticeship Training Coordinator position at Associated Builders & Contractors?
The Apprenticeship Training Coordinator is responsible for the administration and coordination of the Association's Apprenticeship Program(s). Maintains a positive rapport with the apprentices, participating employers, trade-related associations and the training sponsor Apprenticeship Committee members to ensure open communication regarding the direction of apprenticeship training.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains policies, procedures, handbooks, forms, and other materials for implementing the Apprenticeship Program.
- Ensures the program is in compliance with Federal and State laws (including FERPA and Florida’s public records law) and regulations governing Apprenticeship Programs, and that it meets approved apprenticeship standards.
- Maintains all required training records for the program. Generates and distributes OJT, attendance, and grade reports. Records and tracks theory, OJTs, attendance and grade reports.
- Establishes the master schedule of classes each term in accordance with the College academic calendar including instructor assignments.
- Collaborates with training sponsors to identify and recruit candidates for instructor positions.
- Provides administrative support to instructors to maintain apprenticeship standards and program consistency.
- Registers apprenticeship students with the State of Florida.
- Orders textbooks and other necessary resources.
- Provides orientation and counseling regarding apprentices’ program performance.
- Assists apprentices with obtaining employment if terminated or laid off. Also, obtains approval from the Apprenticeship Committee if an apprentice seeks to change employers. Provides support and guidance to at risk apprentices or those who request or are referred for help.
- Consults with employers, foremen, supervisors, and apprentices in the classroom concerning progress of apprentices, evaluation reports and OJTs. Mediates when concerns arise related to students, faculty, and participating employers.
- Facilitates the planning of the Level 4 Journeyman preparation and application process, end of year gift ordering, graduation and final night of class awards ceremonies.
- Copies all completion certificates and provides to apprentices’ employers at the end of the year.
- Performs all site and position specific responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or higher degree.
- Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and automobile insurance. Vehicle occasionally needed to transport materials for education programs, presentations, or for site visits.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in an administrative support role.
- Experience in construction, building trades or plumbing industry.
- Training or teaching experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated experience utilizing Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of the construction trades industry.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with local industry leaders.
- Excellent planning and organization skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with the apprenticeship program structure and requirements desired.
- Ability to interact effectively with students, faculty and staff.

WORK CONDITIONS and SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

Physical Requirements
Tasks involve moderately active physical effort: must be able to twist, kneel, stoop, bend, and safely lift up to 50 lbs. Tasks require dexterity in the use of fingers and limbs. Tasks may involve extended periods of time sitting at a workstation and utilizing a keyboard.
Sensory Requirement:
Most tasks require manual dexterity. Tasks require visual and hearing acuity. Tasks may involve identifying and distinguishing colors. Tasks require oral communications ability.
