Job Summary: The Fossil Lake Ranch Penguins are seeking an energetic, dedicated, and inspiring Part-time, seasonal non-exempt Head Swim Coach for the upcoming summer season. As the leader of the Penguins, you will shape the team’s culture by fostering a positive, inclusive environment where swimmers of all abilities can build endurance, refine their technique, and cultivate a lifelong love for the sport.
In this role, you will oversee all daily practices, orchestrate swim meet logistics, mentor a passionate staff of assistant and volunteer coaches, and serve as a key point of contact for our swim community. If you possess a strong background in competitive swimming, a talent for leadership, and a passion for youth development, we want you to lead the Penguins to a fantastic season!
Key Responsibilities
Practice & Skill Development
- Athlete Assessment: Screen swimmers to evaluate skill levels and determine appropriate lane assignments.
- Workout Design: Write daily practices tailored to building endurance and developing proper stroke mechanics for various age groups.
- Attendance: Attend all scheduled practices, meets, and team functions.
Meet Management & League Logistics
- Meet Line-ups: Create and organize strategic meet line-ups, ensuring they are mostly completed the day before each competition.
- Athlete Feedback: Provide constructive, encouraging feedback to swimmers both before and after their races.
- League Compliance: Attend all league meetings and submit required meet attendance sheets to the league at the end of every week
Leadership & Team Collaboration
- Staff Mentorship: Mentor assistant group coaches and volunteer coaches during practices by providing positive feedback, guidance, and actionable suggestions.
- Meet Oversight: Monitor and guide assistant coaches during swim meets to ensure smooth operations.
- Communication: Consistently communicate and collaborate with the Parent Coordinator and fellow coaching staff to maintain a harmonious working relationship.
Team Spirit & Culture
- Positivity: Constantly embody a positive attitude and serve as a role model for sportsmanship.
- Traditions: Teach swimmers traditional team cheers and preserve beloved Penguins traditions.
- End-of-Season Banquet: Collaborate with coaches to determine end-of-season Swim Banquet award recipients and plan the awards presentation.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
- Swim Experience: Previous experience as a competitive swimmer on a swim team.
- Coaching Experience: 3 years experience in swim coaching or swim instruction/lessons.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage, motivate, and mentor young athletes and assistant staff.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal and organizational skills to effectively communicate expectations and plans with parents, swimmers, and coordinators.
