Job Summary: The Fossil Lake Ranch Penguins are looking for enthusiastic and collaborative Part-time, seasonal non-exempt Assistant Swim Coaches to join our coaching staff for the upcoming summer season! Assistant Coaches play a vital role in the success of the Penguins, working directly under the guidance of the Head Coach to support the athletic and personal growth of our swimmers.
In this role, you will help execute daily practices, manage lane assignments, assist with swim meet logistics, and bring high energy to team traditions. If you love competitive swimming, enjoy working with kids, and want to develop your leadership skills under an experienced Head Coach, we would love to have you on deck!
Key Responsibilities
Practice Support & Lane Coaching
- Practice Execution: Help run daily practices by active coaching, tracking sets, and reinforcing the Head Coach’s workout plans to build swimmer endurance and technique.
- Group Management: Supervise assigned lanes or age groups, ensuring a safe, organized, and focused training environment.
- Attendance: Maintain consistent attendance at all scheduled practices, meets, and team functions.
Meet Operations & Swimmer Support
- Meet Supervision: Assist the Head Coach in managing swimmers and keeping events moving smoothly during dual and special meets.
- Athlete Encouragement: Deliver positive feedback, race tips, and encouragement to swimmers before they step onto the blocks and after they finish.
- Line-Up Support: Help organize swimmers behind the blocks according to the pre-arranged meet line-ups.
Collaboration & Professional Growth
- Mentorship Acceptance: Actively engage with feedback, suggestions, and mentorship provided by the Head Coach to continuously improve coaching skills.
- Volunteer Guidance: Help guide and coordinate youth or parent volunteers during practices and meets.
- Teamwork: Maintain a highly collaborative, positive working relationship with the Head Coach, fellow assistant coaches, and the Parent Coordinator.
Team Spirit & Engagement
- Positive Energy: Embody a vibrant, positive attitude that motivates swimmers and promotes excellent sportsmanship.
- Team Traditions: Lead team cheers, help teach Penguins traditions, and keep team spirit high on deck.
- Awards Selection: Collaborate with the Head Coach and coaching staff to identify end-of-season Swim Banquet awardees.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
- Swim Experience: Previous experience as a competitive swimmer on a swim team.
- Passion for Youth: A strong desire to work with children of all ages and skill levels, with previous experience in swim lessons, camp counseling, or youth programs preferred.
- Team Player: Strong communication skills and a willingness to take direction and work collaboratively as part of a coaching team.
- Availability: Ability to commit to the summer season schedule, including early morning or evening practices and weekend meets.
