PIH oversees the administration of HUD's Public Housing, Housing Choice Voucher, Section 8 Rental Assistance, and Native American Programs through a staff of Headquarters and Field employees. The field structure for PIH consists of 29 Hub Offices and 16 Program Centers that provide oversight, direct monitoring, and coordination for approximately 4,200 public housing authorities.

As a Housing Innovations Specialist, you will:
- Participate in activities seeking resolutions for some of the Nation's most complex and plaguing problems associated with low-income housing assistance.
- Concentrate on excellence and innovation in all aspects of the delivery of public housing and low-income housing assistance through the flexibilities of the Moving to Work demonstration program (MTW), and the revitalization of severely distressed public housing through the use of public housing capital funds, the Choice Neighborhoods program, and bond financing.
- Develop policies and procedures related to innovative performance of public housing management, using MTW flexibilities; facilitating positive relationships between the various HUD offices in headquarters and the field that are necessary to effectively administer the demonstration; developing rules, notices and internal operating procedures for evaluating and monitoring the demonstration sites and assisting in formulating solutions and implementing strategies related to the more efficient management of public housing; prepare recommendations and develop policy alternatives and materials and new or proposed legislation; develop and conduct training for HUD field staff, PHA staff, external partners and residents on financial management and programmatic matters; and provide expert advice and technical assistance.
- Assist in the development and delivery of training to HUD field staff as well as PHA staff, their partners and residents on the Moving to Work demonstration and related activities.
- Travel to and meet with HUD Field staff and program partners to examine operations, investigate problems and develop solutions relating to the Moving to Work demonstration.
