Behavioral Health Technician

Job Summary:

Provides one on one mental health interventions to a child or adolescent under the supervision of a Master's level therapist. This position works to reduce problem-solving behaviors that impede functioning by transferring appropriate techniques and skills that promote developmentally and/or age-appropriate behavior. Behavioral Health Technicians are responsible to model intervention techniques for members of the treatment team (i.e., parents, care givers, teachers). All services are rendered by the Behavioral Health Technician in the home, school, and community settings.

Behavioral Health Technician responsibilities include:

  • Providing crisis intervention techniques when needed.
  • Engaging in immediate behavioral reinforcements.
  • Offering emotional support to clients and care givers.
  • Teaching time-structuring activities.
  • Implementing interventions and psycho social rehabilitative activities as prescribed in the client's treatment plan.
  • Utilizing specific interventions to stabilize the child, adolescent, and their environment.
  • Attending weekly supervision meetings.
  • Completing weekly paperwork and all necessary documentation.
  • Participation in ISPT meetings.
  • Monthly reviews of the current treatment plan with the care givers and client.
  • Providing a report for the psychologist prior to a client's psychological re-evaluation.
  • Completing assigned weekly BHT hours in the home, school, and community settings.
  • Participation in meetings such as IEP meetings at the client's school to address progress and/or concerns.
  • Developing a supportive relationship with school personnel and acting as a liaison between care givers, school personnel, and Assist Incorporated.
  • Working with the care givers to promote age-appropriate behavior.
  • Presenting self in a professional manner in the home, community, and school settings. This includes but is not limited to: use of appropriate language, no profanity, following proper dress code in the school setting, and minimal cell phone usage.
  • Collaborating with other professionals to ensure optimum IBHS treatment of the client.
  • Completing mandatory trainings.
  • Working non-conventional hours as needed, such as evenings and weekends.

 

 

 

 

Employment and Experience Standards:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a human service field (examples include but are not limited to: psychology, sociology, education, criminal justice) no previous work experience required; OR
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a non-human service field, and 1 years of full-time paid experience with children/adolescents and/or families; OR
  • An Associate's degree in a human service field, OR 60 college credits toward a BS/BA degree and 3 years of full-time paid experience with children/adolescents and/or families.

 

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Develop and maintain cooperative and constructive relationships with clients, care givers, school personnel and all professionals involved in the treatment of the client.
  • Ability to adhere to the treatment plan goals and objectives.
  • Ability to apply the treatment plan interventions in a therapeutic, ongoing manner.
  • Knowledge and application of the principles and techniques of behavior modification.
  • Knowledge of the signs and symptoms of child abuse and/or child neglect.
  • Knowledge of community resources and the process of accessing these resources.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and/or regulations governing mental health services.
  • A willingness and ability to work with clients and caregivers that are resistant and possibly hostile to services being provided to them.
  • Organizational skills and time-management skills to fulfill BHT job requirements.
  • Oral and written communication skills to provide other Assist staff, school personnel, and other ancillary agencies with accurate and thorough communication.
  • Ability to work as part of a team approach when providing services and maintain a temperament that enhances collaboration with clients and caregivers.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with the Behavioral Specialist Consultant to provide case-specific treatment that addresses the clients' or care givers' issues and/or concerns.
  • Ability to seek assistance from supervisors when needing clarification and to ask questions regarding treatment objectives for clients.
  • Ability to accept feedback from supervisors as a means of enhancing work performance.
