Job Summary:
The Portable Crushing Plant Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient operation and routine maintenance of Metso portable jaw and cone crushing equipment. This employee will start and primarily work in the Wellton, AZ area, but the project spans about 70 linear miles, and some work in the Lukeville, AZ area will be required as needed. This role ensures consistent material production, equipment reliability, and adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards. The operator performs inspections, adjustments, and minor repairs while coordinating with maintenance, loader operators, and supervisors. This position requires a strong knowledge of equipment operation, adherence to safety standards, and collaboration with the team.
- Operate Metso portable jaw crushers and cone crushers to meet production targets and material specifications
- Start up, shut down, and adjust crushing circuits according to standard operating procedures
- Monitor crusher performance, feed rates, and discharge size to maintain optimal efficiency
- Adjust jaw settings, cone close side settings (CSS), and feeder speeds as required
- Coordinate with loader and haul truck operators to ensure consistent material flow
- Maintain proper stockpile management and prevent contamination
- Perform daily, weekly, and shift-based inspections on crushing and conveying equipment
- Conduct routine maintenance including:
- Lubrication of bearings and moving components
- Checking hydraulic systems, oil levels, and cooling systems
- Inspecting wear parts (jaw dies, cone liners, mantles, bowls, cheek plates)
- Replacing screens, belts, rollers, and minor components as needed
- Identify abnormal sounds, vibration, or performance issues and take corrective action
- Assist maintenance personnel with liner changes, belt repairs, and component replacement
- Diagnose and correct mechanical issues affecting crusher performance
- Clear blockages safely and efficiently following lockout/tagout procedures
- Report major mechanical or electrical issues to maintenance supervision
- Reduce unplanned downtime through proactive equipment monitoring
- Strictly follow all MSHA / OSHA, company, and site-specific safety policies
- Perform and document pre shift and post shift equipment inspections
- Execute lockout/tagout procedures prior to maintenance or repairs
- Maintain housekeeping around the crusher, walkways, and work areas
- Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and training sessions
- Complete daily production, maintenance, and inspection reports
- Communicate equipment status and production issues to supervisors and crew
- Track wear part usage and notify management of replacement needs
- Maintain high equipment uptime and production quality
- Minimize downtime through proactive maintenance and attention to detail
- Demonstrate safe work habits and leadership by example
- Maintain accurate records and clear communication
Requirements and Education:
- 2 years of experience operating portable crushing equipment
- Experience in aggregate, mining, quarrying, or construction materials environments
- Understanding of crushing theory and material flow
- Mechanical aptitude with ability to perform basic repairs
- Knowledge of hydraulic, lubrication, and conveyor systems
- Ability to read equipment manuals, diagrams, and maintenance schedules
- Strong focus on safety and hazard awareness
Working Environment & Conditions:
- Works primarily outdoors at construction sites, exposed to various weather conditions
- May encounter hazardous materials or other safety considerations
- Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting heavy objects, and operating equipment for extended periods
- May be required to work flexible hours or shifts based on project needs
Physical & Mental Requirements:
- Physical requirements include lifting and carrying heavy objects, climbing, bending, and operating machinery
- Mental demands may include working under pressure, managing multiple tasks, and adapting to changing project requirements

Preferred Requirements and Education:
- Hands-on experience with Metso jaw and/or cone crushers preferred
- MSHA, heavy equipment operation, LOTO, and welding training are all preferred
