Under the direct supervision of the Operations and Inventory Supervisor, the primary functions of this position is to keep the hotel in a clean and orderly condition, while tending to minor maintenance duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  1. Maintains building by performing minor maintenance activities or routine painting, trim replacement, weather stripping, secure fixtures, reboot cable boxes, relocation of furniture, etc.

  2. Notifies management concerning need for repairs or additions to lighting, heating, plumbing, electrical or ventilating equipment and follows-up.

  3. Cautions tenants regarding complaints about excessive noise, disorderly conduct, or misuse of property.

  4. Assists in check-ins & departures, bags, luggage, packing, moving re-locating belongings.

  5. Ensures cleanliness of hotel premises, both inside and outside.

  6. Cleans snow and debris from sidewalk.

  7. Maintains the cleanliness of hotel & tour vehicles.

  8. Check fluids and tire air pressure of hotel & tour vehicles daily and replace fuel as needed.

  9. Performs custodial duties that include, shampooing carpets, window cleaning and light cleaning.

  10. Periodically conduct inventory of retail supplies and business stock and requests stock for restocking.

  11. Conduct safety, grounds and property inspections using check lists and documenting and address areas needing attention.

TOURIST SEASON RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform Tour Guide duties as needed.

  2. Coordinate activities with tour guides and performers during tourist season; may also be required to pick-up performers during tourist season.

  3. Pick-up and transport guests and tourists to and from the hotel or airport.

  4. Assist with baggage handling.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  1. Strong knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the Inupiat culture.

  2. High school or equivalent certification.

  3. Valid Alaska Driver License.

  4. One (1) year of hotel clerical or administrative experience.

  5. An equivalent combination of training and experience.

  6. Ability to operate standard office machines and basic understanding of computers.

  7. Knowledge of efficient office procedures.

  8. Strong knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the Inupiat culture.

  9. Ability to speak in a clear and understandable manner and write legibly.

  10. Must be able to work independently, and must be willing to work shifts that vary from day to night and operate seven days a week.

  11. The ability to speak and understand the Inupiaq language is important and preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms; and to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee is frequently required to stand, frequently walk, climb, balance, and occasionally taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.   Specific vision abilities required by this job includes the ability to use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is in a busy office setting.  The incumbent is required to work alone, at various times during the day or night. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, occasionally be exposed to wet or humid conditions, frequently exposed to extreme cold, occasionally exposed to extreme heat, and may be required to travel in small and large commercial aircraft.
