We’re looking for an Engineering Director to lead and scale engineering initiatives supporting Aspire’s US growth.

Based in San Francisco, you will work closely with Product, Design, Data, Risk, and Operations teams to drive technical execution across critical business areas. You’ll help shape engineering strategy, improve development processes, mentor engineering managers and senior engineers, and ensure Aspire continues to deliver scalable, high-quality products in a fast-moving fintech environment.

This role is ideal for a hands-on engineering leader who enjoys building teams, solving complex technical challenges, and operating in high-growth startup environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and scale high-performing engineering teams across key product and platform initiatives
  • Partner closely with Product and cross-functional stakeholders to define technical strategy and execution priorities
  • Drive engineering excellence, scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency across systems and infrastructure
  • Support architecture decisions and help build scalable, secure, and resilient fintech products
  • Mentor engineering managers and senior engineers while fostering a strong engineering culture
  • Improve development processes, delivery velocity, and cross-team collaboration
  • Help recruit and grow top engineering talent as Aspire expands in the US
  • Balance speed, technical quality, and business impact in a fast-paced environment

What We’re Looking For

  • 10 years of software engineering experience, including experience leading engineering teams in high-growth technology environments
  • Prior experience managing engineering managers and/or multiple engineering teams
  • Strong technical background with experience building scalable distributed systems and modern cloud-based architectures
  • Experience working within fintech, payments, banking, SaaS, or regulated technology environments is strongly preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced, ambiguous startup environments
  • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to drive execution and organizational alignment
  • Experience scaling engineering processes, teams, and infrastructure during periods of rapid growth
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Based in or open to relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area

For candidates based in the US, the base salary range for this role is $200,000–$320,000, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.We believe in paying competitively for high-impact talent, especially people who thrive in fast-moving, high-ownership environments. Final compensation will depend on experience, location, and the scope of the role, and we’re happy to discuss details throughout the process.
