What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chef Instructor position at Aspire Youth & Family, Inc.?
Chef Instrutor
Minimum Qualifications: Must have at least a high school diploma with at least one year of experience as a chef, sous chef, lead cook, supervising a kitchen, or supervising culinary students. Previous experience working with youth or special populations is preferred. Staff implementing curriculum shall be appropriately trained and qualified in both curricula content and facilitation techniques. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Culinary Instruction
- Develop and provide age-appropriate culinary instruction to youth by following the approved curriculum
- Provide positive behavioral support, utilize the behavior system as trained and in a consistent manner
- Ensure that kitchen space rules including safety, food preparation, storage cleanliness, lock-up, or other best
practice rules are maintained at all times
Coaching and Personal Development
- Assist youth in developing soft skills for use in work and school settings
- Provide emotional and vocational support to all youth
- Link youth and their family to needed resources available in the community
- Help youth learn to apply new skills learned in their other environments such as school, home, or work
- Give positive praise whenever possible to staff, youth, and families
- Role model appropriate and expected behavior of youth and families
Youth Supervision
- Ensure constant supervision of youth when on-site and off-site in the community by maintaining required staff-client ratios, keeping clients in sight, and communicating with other staff members
- Follow procedures for on-site and off-site activities
- Provide transportation for youth when needed for program activities
- Help create and maintain a supportive environment for youth and families
Community Relations
- Build relationships where possible with staff from the public schools, GED programs, Adult High Schools, drop-out
prevention/re-entry program, DJJ, DSS, public library, recreation centers, youth sports leagues, church’s, Job- link/NC Works, etc. to promote public knowledge about the program and gain referrals
- Build relationships where possible with all potential job sites for program youth
Agency Representation and Program Support
- Attend supervision meetings, general staff meetings, and JJTC meetings where applicable
- Assist in ongoing development and refining of Aspire programs
- Communicate any concerns, problems, or strengths of the program directly to the Aspire Youth and Family, District Leader and Executive Director Additional Duties
- Complete required daily documentation within specified timelines
- Complete all training and additional tasks requested by the District Leader and Executive Director.
Pay- $15.00-$17.00
Hours- 12:00pm-8:00pm.
Monday-Friday
Saturdays- When needed.
