Job Summary:
Responsible for assisting the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) with direct and indirect patient care activities. Assists in the delivery of care to psychiatric patients who may have acute events as a result of an illness, injury, or exacerbation of a disease process. Supports quality improvement culture is committed to key constituent satisfaction and assumes accountability for demonstrating behaviors consistent with the Code of Conduct and Aspire’s customer service policy. The MHT will utilize communication and documentation skills listed in the CNA and or MHT Competency Checklist and Skills Training as well as collaboration with RNs, LVNs, and other members of the interdisciplinary to fulfill performance requirements to provide safe and quality patient care.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assures a safe positive environment while providing quality direct patient care. Demonstrates ability to respond professionally and calmly in emergency situations. Demonstrates ability to de-escalate irritable, aggressive, or hostile patients while implementing CPI or other approved therapeutic safety techniques for the patient population. Demonstrates effective communication skills to foster a helpful patient rapport.
- Provides patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Communicate with the Registered Nurse and health care team throughout the shift regarding patient any changes in patient physical and mental status. Works cooperatively as a member of the interdisciplinary team to consistently promote hospital vision for optimal quality and safe patient care
- Provides and ensures milieu safety by consistent supervision of patient care areas, and patient rooms, completing safety and environmental rounds. Completes body searches, searches for contraband, and patient belongings on admission/discharge, and completes all required documentation. Knowledgeable of occurrence reports and patient grievance process. Demonstrates ability to give and receive oncoming and off-going shift reports.
- Knowledgeable of hospital safety codes, patient precautions, and hospital policies and procedures related to safe care in the least restrictive environment, seclusion and restraints, and medical and psychiatric emergencies.
- Recognizes signs and symptoms of medical and psychiatric emergencies to report to the Registered Nurses.
- Assists patients with ADLs, grooming, feeding, and hygiene and takes vital signs. Documents patient care and vital signs in medical records and on appropriate flow sheets.
- Performs clerical duties such as labeling charts, arranging new charts, and filing. Performs routine refrigerator checks and equipment cleaning.
- Knowledgeable of HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality and inpatient identification. Complete required annual mandatory education, training, and in-services.
- Keeps staff and patient information within the HIPAA privacy laws.
- Maintains and supports a safe and compliant environment.
- Complies with all hospital, Federal, Medicare/Medicaid/State standards, policies, and rules.
- Performs other duties as necessary.

Required education:

Required certification:
- BLS
Preferred experience:
- Preferred up to one year psychiatric experience
