What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Service Advisor position at Aspen Tire & Auto?
Automotive Service Advisor
Aspen Tire & Auto | Wilmington, NC
$17–$24 per hour performance bonus up to $1,000/month
Full-Time | Monday–Friday | No Nights or Weekends
Hiring timeline: We are accepting applications now. Qualified candidates will begin being contacted the week of October 19, 2026.
Aspen Tire & Auto is a locally owned and operated automotive service and tire shop that has served the Wilmington community for more than 25 years. We are looking for a dependable, customer-focused Service Advisor to join our team.
This opening is available because one of our longtime service advisors is retiring. We have low employee turnover, and positions on our team do not become available often.
We are a busy, primarily appointment-based shop servicing approximately 40 vehicles per day. Our service counter is team-based, with three advisors working together to take care of our customers and keep the shop running smoothly.
Previous automotive service advisor experience is a plus, but it is not required. We are willing to train the right person who has strong customer-service skills, good mechanical aptitude, a positive attitude, and a genuine willingness to learn.
We can teach automotive service. Reliability, work ethic, communication skills, and the ability to solve problems are much harder to teach.
Compensation
- $17–$24 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
- Performance bonus opportunity of up to $1,000 per month
- Bonus is based on overall shop gross-profit performance
- Overtime paid at 1.5× the regular hourly rate for hours worked over 40
- This is an hourly position, not a commission-only sales position
Schedule
- Monday through Friday
- 7:30 AM–5:00 PM
- No nights
- No weekends
We are a busy shop, so reliability is extremely important. We understand that employees need and deserve time away from work, and emergencies happen. We simply expect planned time off to be scheduled appropriately so the rest of the team and our customers can be taken care of.
Benefits
- 100% company-paid employee health insurance
- Health coverage currently provided through Blue Cross Blue Shield
- Health insurance eligibility after 90 days
- Dependent coverage available at the employee's expense
- SIMPLE IRA retirement plan after 30 days
- Dollar-for-dollar company match up to 3%
- 96 hours of paid vacation annually after one year of employment
- Company-provided uniforms
- Employee pricing at company cost on tires and automotive parts
Paid Holidays
Paid holidays are available immediately upon employment:
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Black Friday
- Christmas Eve
- Christmas Day
- New Year's Day
What You'll Do
Our service advisors are the primary connection between our customers and technicians. You'll help customers understand what their vehicles need, coordinate work with the shop, and make sure customers are kept informed throughout their visit.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Greeting customers and answering incoming phone calls
- Scheduling appointments
- Accurately documenting customer concerns
- Creating and maintaining repair orders
- Gathering accurate customer and vehicle information
- Communicating with technicians about customer concerns and inspection findings
- Preparing estimates for recommended services and repairs
- Explaining inspection results and repair recommendations in terms customers can understand
- Helping customers prioritize maintenance and repairs based on need and urgency
- Selling tires, maintenance services, and necessary repairs
- Obtaining customer authorization before work is performed
- Keeping customers updated on vehicle status and promised completion times
- Ordering and coordinating parts when necessary
- Reviewing completed work and invoices for accuracy
- Checking customers out and answering questions about completed services
- Documenting declined and future service recommendations
- Following up on unresolved customer concerns
- Working with the other service advisors and technicians to keep the day's schedule moving efficiently
You'll work with systems including TireWorks HD, Carfax, RepairLink, electronic parts catalogs, customer texting and phone systems, email, and other shop software. We will train you on our specific systems and processes.
Customer Service Comes First
We want our advisors to sell needed work, but we are not looking for a high-pressure salesperson.
Our approach is straightforward: identify what the vehicle actually needs, explain it clearly, help the customer understand what is most important, and let the customer make an informed decision.
Sometimes taking care of a customer also means solving a problem when something doesn't go according to plan.
Our advisors are expected to take ownership of customer concerns rather than simply passing problems to someone else. You'll have reasonable autonomy to find solutions and make things right for customers, with support from the rest of the team when needed.
Automotive Experience
Previous automotive service advisor experience is valuable, but we are willing to train the right person.
Much of our business involves:
- Tires
- Oil changes and preventive maintenance
- NC safety inspections
- Brakes
- Alignments
- Steering and suspension
- Fluid maintenance
- Routine automotive repair and service
We are not a shop focused on major engine rebuilding, transmission rebuilding, or heavy diagnostic repair.
That means someone with excellent customer-service experience, mechanical aptitude, and an interest in learning about automotive service can be successful here even without years of previous service-advisor experience.
Who We're Looking For
A successful Aspen service advisor will be someone who:
- Is dependable and reliable
- Works hard and stays productive while on the clock
- Enjoys helping people
- Communicates clearly and professionally
- Is comfortable talking with customers both in person and over the phone
- Can explain technical information in simple terms
- Is organized and able to manage multiple customers and tasks at once
- Is comfortable discussing repair costs and asking customers for authorization
- Can prioritize when several things need attention at the same time
- Looks for solutions instead of simply passing problems to someone else
- Remains professional when a customer is frustrated
- Takes ownership of customer concerns and follows through until they are resolved
- Works well as part of a team
- Is honest when recommending services and repairs
- Has basic mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn
- Pays attention to details and documents information accurately
- Understands that taking care of the customer is the priority
Why Aspen Tire & Auto?
We're an established, locally owned business that has served Wilmington for more than 25 years.
We have a busy shop, an established customer base, low employee turnover, and a team that works together rather than competing against each other for individual commissions.
We believe employees should be compensated for helping the business succeed, which is why this position combines hourly pay, overtime eligibility, and an opportunity for additional monthly performance bonuses.
We also believe good employees should have a life outside of work. We're open Monday through Friday with no nights or weekends.
This position is opening because a longtime employee is retiring—not because we're constantly replacing people.
There is room to grow at Aspen Tire & Auto. We don't promise titles or promotions on a predetermined timeline, but we notice, appreciate, and reward employees who become valuable members of the team.
If you're an experienced automotive service advisor looking for a good long-term home—or you're an excellent customer-service professional with mechanical aptitude who wants to build a career in the automotive industry—we'd like to hear from you.
Apply through Indeed with your work history or résumé.
