Aspen is looking for a dynamic leader with scientific and clinical expertise in neurodegenerative diseases to join the team as Associate Director, Medical Affairs. The ideal candidate has experience in Parkinson’s disease, serving as a key bridge between clinical development, medical strategy, and external stakeholders by leading high-quality scientific exchange with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare providers, and research institutions. This role will have field engagement and spearhead strategic conversations by gathering and translating external insights to inform decision-making. Key strengths in building and planning will contribute to strategic territory planning, development and training of field teams, and cross-functional initiatives.

This is a field-based role in the U.S., with a preference for Eastern or Central time zone. Travel is estimated at 50-60% of time for KOL engagement, clinical site visits, congresses, and internal meetings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Establish and maintain peer-to-peer scientific relationships with KOLs, principal investigators, and healthcare professionals in the neurodegenerative field.
  • Present and discuss clinical/scientific data related to Parkinson’s disease and investigational therapies in a balanced, compliant, and evidence-based manner.
  • Attend and support congresses, advisory boards, and symposia, representing Medical Affairs and capturing meaningful external insights.
  • Gather, analyze, and communicate field insights to inform medical strategy, publication planning, evidence generation, and cross-functional decision-making.
  • Partner cross-functionally with various internal teams to align field insights with company objectives.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of field medical strategy, including KOL mapping, external expert identification, and stakeholder engagement planning.
  • Support clinical trial sites through scientific engagement, feasibility discussions, and issue escalation as needed.
  • Support the development and delivery of scientific/educational presentations for healthcare providers, payers, and advocacy groups
  • Provide scientific training and mentorship to field medical colleagues and support onboarding of new MSLs.
  • Assist in medical budget planning and tracking to ensure effective allocation of resources.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior MSLs in the field team
  • Lead or contribute to Medical Affairs initiatives such as publication planning, advisory board development, field medical training, and insight reporting.
  • Oversee CRM usage for tracking KOL interactions, metrics, and strategic impact reporting.
  • Represent Medical Affairs during internal planning meetings and strategic discussions.
  • Support broader Medical Affairs operations including Medical Information, pharmacovigilance coordination, vendor oversight, and external meeting logistics.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Advanced scientific or clinical degrees (PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent) required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Medical Affairs, with at least 3 years as an MSL preferably in neuroscience or gene/cell therapy.
  • Proven experience engaging with KOLs, clinical sites, and scientific leaders in a field-based capacity.

  • Medical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Parkinson’s disease, neurodegenerative disorders, or movement disorders.
  • KOL Engagement: Ability to build trust, credibility, and long-term relationships with scientific leaders and investigators.
  • Strategic Insight Application: Skilled in gathering, synthesizing, and communicating insights to shape medical planning.
  • Communication & Presentation: Exceptional written and verbal skills; experienced in delivering scientific content to diverse audiences.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Effective partner across Medical, Clinical, Commercial, HEOR, and Advocacy functions.
  • Compliance & Ethics: Knowledge of MLR requirements, industry guidelines (PhRMA, OIG), and compliant scientific exchange.
  • Project Leadership: Capable of leading key initiatives (advisory boards, training, publications, field programs).
  • Mentorship & Team Contribution: Supports development of internal colleagues and contributes to team effectiveness.
  • Analytical & CRM Proficiency: Experience using CRM platforms for insight management and field reporting.
  • Adaptability & Initiative: Thrives in dynamic environments with changing priorities and evolving strategy.
  • Technology Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable adopting digital engagement platforms.
  • Industry/Business acumen: Thorough understanding and experience in successful progression of clinical development programs
  • Location: Field-based, U.S. (Preference for Eastern or Central time zones).

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego is $200-$220k annually. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Aspen Neuroscience is multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
