What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hospice Chaplain position at Aspen Hospice and Palliative Care?
Full-Time | San Antonio, TX
Aspen Hospice is growing in San Antonio, and we are looking for a compassionate, grounded, and mission-driven Hospice Chaplain to join our team. We believe in caring for the whole person — mind, body, and spirit — and our chaplains are an essential part of providing that peace, support, and dignity at end of life.
What You’ll Do
- Provide spiritual, emotional, and bereavement support to patients and families of all faiths, backgrounds, and beliefs
- Conduct visits in homes, facilities, and community settings across the San Antonio area
- Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team (RN Case Managers, Social Workers, CNAs, Physicians, and Leadership) to provide holistic care
- Support families through anticipatory grief, end-of-life preparation, legacy work, and bereavement follow-up
- Offer counseling, prayer, meditation, life-review, and other interventions tailored to the patient’s needs and comfort
- Participate in IDT meetings and contribute to individualized care plans
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation
- Represent Aspen Hospice with professionalism, empathy, and respect in all interactions
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in hospice or end-of-life care strongly preferred
- Comfortable supporting individuals from diverse spiritual, cultural, and belief backgrounds (religious and non-religious)
- Strong communication, counseling, and listening skills
- Ability to hold space during emotionally heavy moments with steadiness and compassion
- Reliable transportation and flexibility to travel within the San Antonio service area
- Ordination, endorsement, or recognized credentials appropriate to spiritual care
- Ability to pass background requirements
