Position Summary:
The Hospice Compliance Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the company’s compliance program to ensure all hospice operations meet federal, state, and accreditation standards. This role ensures adherence to regulatory requirements, identifies potential compliance risks, leads internal audits, and promotes a culture of ethical and compliant behavior across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and manage the organization’s compliance program in accordance with CMS, state regulations, and hospice industry standards.
- Monitor changes in hospice regulations and ensure policies and procedures are updated accordingly.
- Conduct routine internal audits, chart reviews, and compliance checks to ensure accurate documentation and regulatory adherence.
- Investigate compliance concerns, documentation issues, or reported violations; provide corrective action plans when needed.
- Educate staff on compliance requirements through training sessions, educational materials, and ongoing support.
- Collaborate with clinical leadership, quality assurance teams, and administrators to address performance gaps and minimize risk.
- Oversee HIPAA compliance, ensuring patient information is protected and staff follows privacy requirements.
- Prepare documentation for state surveys, accreditation visits (e.g., CHAP, Joint Commission), and respond to survey findings.
- Track and report compliance metrics and trends to leadership, offering recommendations for improvement.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of hospice regulatory guidelines, including Conditions of Participation (CoPs).
- Promote a culture of compliance, integrity, and accountability throughout the organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Business, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of hospice, home health, or healthcare compliance experience.
- Strong knowledge of CMS hospice Conditions of Participation, state hospice regulations, and HIPAA laws.
- Experience conducting audits, investigations, and compliance training.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple departments.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) preferred but not required.
Work Environment:
- Full-time position with occasional travel for training, audits, or site visits.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.
Pay: Up to $75,000.00 per year
