The Human Resources Manager at the Aspen Art Museum is a strategic leader responsible for the full spectrum of people operations. They oversee talent acquisition, employee engagement, professional development, compensation and benefits, diversity and inclusion initiatives, labor compliance, and the implementation of people-centric policies and practices. As a trusted partner to museum leadership, the HR Manager cultivates an enriching workplace culture that empowers the institution's world-class team to deliver on its artistic mission and core values. With expertise in talent management, the HR Manager ensures the museum attracts, develops, and retains top performers through robust HR programs, equitable practices, and a commitment to the employee experience.


Reports to: Deputy Director, Operations

Employment Status: Non-Exempt Part Time, 24 hours per week, $50-60 per hour


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Advertise staff vacancies, track and assess applications, interview applicants, conduct reference checks, and make recommendations to management.
  • Respond to inquiries about open positions and send notification when a position closes.
  • Analyze the skills and qualities required for positions in order to maintain and develop job descriptions.
  • Coordinate new hire paperwork logistics and ensure all new employees are issued appropriate ID badges and work stations.
  • Coordinate regular new staff orientation and training as well as other staff development as needed.
  • Maintain Employee Handbook and all personnel policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Department on annual reviews of health and retirement benefits.
  • Administer the museum’s benefit program, including health, dental, and vision plan.
  • Provide administrative support to help eligible employees navigate and enroll in the museum’s benefit offerings.
  • Assist in administering the museum’s worker’s compensation, and unemployment insurance programs.
  • Manage annual performance review process including maintenance of forms and tracking results in close collaboration with the Deputy Director, Operations
  • Maintain personnel records on wages, performance reviews, promotions, or other matters.
  • Track paid-time off requests, accruals, and reporting.
  • Assist executive leadership in the appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Work with management on disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Investigate complaints and recommend appropriate action.
  • Provide expertise and guidance to employees and managers on employee performance, discipline, supervision, and complaints.
  • Ensure compliance and equity within the organization and competitiveness in the labor market.
  • Maintain current staff contact list and organization charts.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources and museum functions, and ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
  • Be a resource for current employees on museum policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation, and benefits. 
  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, and government regulations.
  • Excellent communication, verbal, and written skills.
  • Ability to represent the museum with a high level of integrity and professionalism, adhere to museum policies, maintain confidentiality, and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, including the ability to identify potential issues before they escalate, and contribute constructive solutions that support positive outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and deliver results while managing multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and task management skills.
  • Dependability, flexibility, and adaptability in a dynamic event-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications and programs, e.g., MS Word, email, MS Excel, and file management.
