Job Title: Technical Content & Committee Manager
Position Summary:
ASM International is seeking a technically credible and highly collaborative professional to serve as a key liaison between ASM’s technical volunteers, content teams, and business initiatives. This role combines materials engineering expertise with strong communication, relationship-building, and project coordination skills to help transform technical knowledge into relevant, high-quality, and marketable products and programs.
The position will work closely with ASM’s volunteer technical committees and internal teams to develop and strengthen handbooks, journal content, technical resources, and event programming. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with technical subject-matter experts, facilitating ideas into actionable projects, and balancing technical rigor with audience needs and market opportunities.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical liaison to ASM’s volunteer technical committees, helping translate technical expertise and ideas into actionable, relevant, and marketable outcomes.
- Build strong relationships with volunteer leaders and subject-matter experts, providing structure, facilitation, and follow-through to committee initiatives.
- Support the development of new technical committees and strengthen engagement with existing committees.
- Serve as a technical resource for ASM handbooks, journals, special issues, and other technical content, providing subject-matter guidance and quality review.
- Collaborate with content, digital, media, and other internal teams to identify and develop new technical products and resources that meet members and industry needs.
- Identify emerging technical topics, industry trends, and market opportunities that can inform ASM’s content, products, and programs.
- Work with event committees and staff to strengthen technical programming, including topics, speakers, keynote content, and opportunities to expand industry participation.
- Facilitate collaboration between technical volunteers and ASM staff across content, events, marketing, and other functions.
- Manage multiple technical projects and priorities, ensuring effective communication, coordination, and follow-through.
- Represent ASM professionally with members, volunteers, industry professionals, and other external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in materials engineering, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field.
- 4-5 years of experience in materials engineering, materials-related industry, or a closely related technical field.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, facilitation, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to balance technical rigor with audience needs, market relevance, and business opportunities.
- Experience with technical publications, professional societies, committees, technical events, or volunteer organizations is a plus.
- Experience with metals, materials processing/testing, technical education, or technical content development is preferred.
Salary : $85,000 - $90,000
