ASM Affiliates (ASM) has an immediate opening for an Environmental Compliance Inspector on Maui. ASM is a Cultural Resource Management (CRM) consulting firm specializing in archaeology, history, and architectural history, with offices throughout the Western U.S. and Hawai‘i. The successful candidate will become an integral member of our dedicated team of professionals and work in a collegial and positive environment.

The Environmental Compliance Inspector is responsible for providing environmental inspection and monitoring during projects in Hawai’i. Successful candidate must be flexible and responsive to a changing work environment and must understand industry safety procedures and practices. Be a proactive communicator and be able to work with construction personnel in the field to educate them about the project requirements and problem solve when issues arise with focus on safety. Practice frequent and clear communication with all parties to make sure the team is delivering the services our clients expect.

This is a full-time, limited-term position for a duration of 12 months with the possibility of renewal each year. The project duration is expected to be up to 4 years. This position will require travel and overnight stays, depending on project location and scale. Hours will vary based on project/client needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Completing daily health assessments prior to starting each workday

· Conducting daily safety self-meetings

· Submitting daily safety check-in/check-out texts

· Reviewing project documents and evaluating environmental requirements related to the projects

· Conducting daily field inspections to ensure environmental compliance

· Composing and submitting accurate and thorough daily inspection reports (with photographs) for submittal to clients, and state and federal agencies

· Uploading project photographs to server daily

· Apply excellent communication skills with project team, landowners, clients, construction, and the public

· Identifying issues and concerns and determining appropriate resolutions, while working collaboratively with ASM’s management team

· Conducting training and providing updates to crews during daily tailboards

· Coordinating with construction teams to determine schedules and planned work activities to evaluate areas before construction

· Meeting with construction personnel to assess project access, extra work areas, and deviations from project plans to complete Change Orders (COs)

· Attending meetings with ASM’s internal team to discuss compliance status

· Providing daily and/or weekly email summary updates to ASM’s team regarding project concerns and needs

· Collaborating with the ASM team to provide details and input for weekly reports.

· Coordinating with ASM’s team regarding compliance, including challenges, observations, and solutions

· Recording real-time entry of time (clocking in/clocking out with ASM-approved program), ensuring lunches and breaks are accounted for

· Submitting mileage and vehicle service needs according to a schedule defined by Project Lead

· Performing other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, environmental science, biology, ecology, or a related field

· Minimum of 4 years of experience in archaeological/environmental monitoring or compliance roles.

· Must showcase proven expertise and bring substantial hands-on experience navigating complex environmental landscapes effectively, in the western United States and/or Hawai’i

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and ArcGIS: Essential technical skills are required to understand and analyze data accurately, ensuring precision in reporting

· Comprehensive regulatory knowledge to ensure all projects adhere to state and federal environmental standards.

· Excellent communication skills: Effective communication with team members and stakeholders with timely, effective, and respectful communication

· Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently while maintaining attention to detail: Multitasking should not compromise quality; must juggle various responsibilities while focusing on detail-oriented execution

· Experience conducting fieldwork, environmental monitoring, and other environmental surveys: Field-ready expertise is crucial for accurate data collection, compliance assessments, and fostering environmental stewardship

· Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach to addressing issues: Environmental Compliance Inspector/Monitor must anticipate challenges and devise strategic solutions promptly, ensuring seamless project progress

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment: Flexibility and teamwork ensure adaptability in project environments, fostering collaborative efforts

· Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various project sites as needed: Possess valid driver license and good driving record. Readiness to visit different locations is essential for comprehensive project oversight.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Strong knowledge of Hawai’i environmental regulations and compliance requirements

· Strong field experience and comfortability working on construction projects and around heavy equipment

· Current HAZWOPER certification preferred (must be obtained upon hire)

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 pounds

· Ability to work long hours in potentially extreme weather conditions

· Field work will be outside and can include remaining stationary for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting, and sitting for site assessments, field inspections, oversight, and other field activities

· Ability to drive a 4x4 truck over long distances and uneven terrain.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
