Educational Sign Language Interpreter – Elementary Student Job Summary
We are seeking a Sign Language Interpreter to support communication for one elementary deaf student during the school day. The interpreter will facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and peers to ensure full access to classroom instruction and activities.
This position offers flexible scheduling, making it ideal for interpreters looking for steady work or substitute hours.
We are currently seeking someone who can start soon and finish the remainder of the current school year, with potential opportunities for future work. Great opportunity for recent interpreting graduates looking to gain educational experience.
Schedule
- 6.5-hour school day
- 1–5 days per week based on your availability
- School-day schedule aligned with the school calendar
- Position available immediately through the end of the school year
Responsibilities
- Interpret classroom instruction and discussions using American Sign Language
- Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and peers
- Support the student’s access to classroom activities and school routines
- Work cooperatively with teachers and school staff
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Qualifications
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Enjoys working with kids
- EIPA, RID certification, Kentucky interpreter license, or equivalent credentials preferred
Applicants who do not yet hold certifications are still encouraged to apply. We can evaluate ASL interpreting skills and may work with qualified candidates as they obtain required credentials.
