Overview
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sushi Chef to join our team. The Sushi Chef will be responsible for preparing high-quality sushi, managing kitchen operations related to sushi preparation, and ensuring adherence to all food safety standards.
- Must be able to work Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00am-9:30pm
- Must be able to effectively communicate with guests and other employees
- Detect and identify safety issues, and comply with safety guidelines and standards
- Lift and carry trays, dishes, equipment, and goods up to 50 lbs, stock inventory, and perform restocking duties
- Must have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Bend, stoop, and reach to access various areas and items
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Ability to use kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, such as ovens, grills, and knives
- Maintain a neat and organized workspace, including proper storage of supplies and cleaning of surfaces
- Move quickly and efficiently to respond to customer needs
- Ability to work in close proximity to coworkers in a crowded kitchen or serving area
- Maintain a professional and hygienic appearance, including proper uniform and personal grooming
- Understand directives and communicate effectively with Leadership and coworkers
Responsibilities
- Prepare a variety of sushi and sashimi with precision and artistry, ensuring authentic flavors and presentation.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sushi station
- Handle all aspects of food preparation including cutting, rolling, and assembling sushi with knife skills expertise.
- Monitor inventory levels of ingredients such as fish, rice, seaweed, and other supplies; place orders as needed.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely service during busy hours
- Ensure proper storage of ingredients to maintain freshness and prevent cross-contamination.
Experience
- Proven experience in Japanese cuisine, specifically as a Sushi Chef or similar role within a restaurant or catering environment.
- Strong background in culinary arts with emphasis on food preparation, cooking, and food industry standards.
- Demonstrated proficiency in knife skills, food handling, and meal preparation techniques essential for sushi making.
