Position Title: DC Youth Facilitation Coordinator and MD Youth Facilitation Coordinator

Type: Full-time, non-exempt

Locations: Washington D.C. Public Schools (Ward 1 and 3) and Montgomery County, Maryland

Openings: Two positions (one DC-based and one MD-based)

Area of Focus: Education, Youth Development

Compensation: $43,000 - $48,000/annually, benefits included


Who We Are: Asian American LEAD (AALEAD) is a youth development nonprofit organization that empowers Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) youth in underserved communities through culturally responsive programming and advocacy. AALEAD provides after-school, summer, and mentoring programs through a social-emotional and culturally responsive curriculum that encompasses our core values: educational empowerment, identity development, and leadership opportunities.


1) Program Implementation and Facilitation (60%)


After-School Program: Lead AALEAD programs serving middle and high school youth by facilitating after-school programs at designated sites. Typical program hours are Monday–Thursday, approximately 4:30–6:30 pm in DC and 2:30–4:30 pm in MD.


  • Support the development of a culturally responsive curriculum and after-school program workshops
  • Effectively implement and facilitate the curriculum
  • Assist Program Manager with grant reports by accurately tracking and reporting youth metrics 
  • Coordinate with community partners and other local organizations for guest speaker workshops
  • Support and chaperone field trip opportunities outside of After-School Programs
  • Other duties as assigned


Summer Programs: Lead AALEAD summer programs by co-developing curriculum and facilitating content 5 days per week, for 5 weeks in the summer.


2) Program Recruitment & Retention (30%)


  • Organize and lead youth recruitment events throughout the school year to increase youth participation and retention
  • Track youth enrollment metrics and attendance daily
  • Identify and implement best practices to improve youth after-school program retention


3) Program Operational Management (10%)


  • Participate in program staff meetings and training
  • Maintain accurate youth attendance and enrollment data to support grant reports and youth community service hour logs
  • Develop relationships with youth and create a positive and inclusive after-school program community
  • Develop relationships with parents/guardians to ensure youth success and growth

Skills and Qualifications

  • Individuals who have worked or volunteered in similar settings (e.g. summer camps for underserved youth) or a current college student, BA/BS in education, social work, AAPI studies, liberal arts, or a related field
  • Group facilitation and workshop experience (youth experience required)
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Creative delivery of workshops for middle and high school aged youth
  • Ability to identify problems and implement effective solutions and strategies
  • Commitment to providing exceptional programs to youth and support to them
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous experience working with and/or knowledgeable about the issues and needs of AAPI immigrant youth and families
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work on-site primarily during after-school hours and during summer programs, with the flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as scheduled
  • Fluency in any Asian language is strongly desirable
  • Reliable and consistent transportation required
