Position: Healthy Asian Youth Program Assistant

Job Type: Summer: Full-Time (up to 35 hours/week), June 1 through July 31, 2026

Schedule: Summer schedule is Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm, 35 hours per week.

Reports To: HAY Program Manager

Purpose:

  • Facilitate tutoring sessions, academic enrichment courses, and recreational activities in after school and summer program
  • Assist in curriculum development, supervision of the children, positive discipline, etc.

Duties:

  • Serve as a member of the summer program team to develop meaningful curriculum that addresses core areas of mathematics, reading, physical wellness, and social emotional learning. Support the Program Manager in operating the Healthy Asian Youth program.
  • During the summer, assist the Program Manager in overseeing additional staff and interns, and work closely and collaboratively with volunteers, workshop instructors, and others to meet program objectives and maintain program standards.
  • Provide tutoring, mentorship, instruction, and supervision during after school and summer programming. Assist with recreational activities, field trips, and other activities.
  • Maintain detailed records of child participation, and assist in administering evaluations and assessments. Assist in collecting data for grant funding. Maintain service records in accordance with agency procedures and grant requirements.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with kids, families, volunteers, workshop facilitators, and community partners. Ensure that program objectives are met.
  • Actively recruit participants by contacting members of the community, maintaining close relationships with them, informing them of the availability and benefits of the HAY Summer and After School Program, and marketing the program at community events. Assist with paperwork for enrolling kids.
  • Intervene appropriately when children disobey program rules. Interact with parents to address concerns. Conduct family needs assessments as needed, and link families to services at AACS (e.g., free health clinics, ESL classes) and other appropriate resources.
  • Coordinate transportation logistics with AACS staff and participants’ parents as necessary.
  • Actively participate in relevant AACS meetings and trainings as needed.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner reflective of AACS standards.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned by the HAY Program Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older with a high school diploma or GED.
  • Clean FBI/BCII background check.
  • Valid first aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree earned or in progress, preferred. College-level coursework in health, education, psychology, social work, or other humanities field preferred. Social service experience especially with children and youth preferred.
  • Experience working within a culturally and linguistically diverse environment highly desirable. Knowledge of Asian and Pacific Islander cultures required.
  • Strong communication skills in English. Bilingual in Mandarin is a plus.
  • Must be flexible in order to work on a variety of projects simultaneously.
  • Maintain good relationships with families, volunteers, workshop facilitators, and community partners.
  • Ability to handle multiple stressors and maintain composure while working in challenging situations.
