JOB TITLE: COMMUNICATIONS & EVENT MANAGER
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
The Asian American Chamber of Commerce of Kansas City was formed in 1998 as a non-profit organization to enhance the economic opportunities for Asian American businesses through education, networking, and advocacy while promoting community engagement and visibility.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications and Events Manager will serve as the lead staff member responsible for outreach and engagement with the Chamber’s membership and broader community. This role will drive and execute membership campaigns, Chamber events, community partnerships, and other initiatives that strengthen member engagement and visibility.
The Communications & Events Manager will help strengthen membership and engagement, increase awareness of Chamber programs and events, ensure consistent and professional communication across platforms, and deliver well-organized events that provide meaningful value to Chamber members and the broader business community.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
· Plan, manage, and execute the Chamber's monthly events — including event communications, vendor coordination, logistics, attendance tracking, and follow-up
· Manage membership renewals, invoicing, and payment processing while maintaining strong relationships with current and prospective members
· Create compelling content across all channels — email newsletters, press releases, speeches, event announcements, eblasts, social media, and print materials
· Maintain and regularly update the Chamber website and member database
· Manage and grow the Chamber's presence on Facebook and LinkedIn
· Support the Executive Director with board meeting preparation, external relations, and day-to-day organizational needs
· Represent the Chamber in community meetings and external events as needed
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
· 2 years of experience in communications, marketing, events, membership organizations, nonprofits, or a related field preferred.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills; writing samples may be requested.
· Proficiency in website development and content management using WordPress or similar platforms preferred.
· Strong graphic design skills with the ability to create professional marketing and promotional materials, using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms preferred.
· Experience with email marketing, newsletters, eblasts, and social media management including Constant Contact and Facebook for Business preferred.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Zoom/team meetings
· Experience planning and coordinating events.
· Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with members, businesses, community partners, and volunteers.
· Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
· Reliable, punctual, professional, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
· Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, public relations, or a related field preferred.
· Strong knowledge of the local business and community environment is a plus.
COMPENSATION
$51,000-$61,000 DOE. This is a full-time position in a flexible, hybrid work environment with in-person meetings and attendance at Chamber events required. Benefits package includes health insurance assistance, employer retirement contributions, generous PTO, and paid holidays.
