CHILD WELFARE CASEWORKER
at ASHTABULA COUNTY CHILDREN SERVICES, Ashtabula, Ohio
Applications are being accepted to fill a Child Welfare Caseworker position, a full-time position.
Responsibilities and Duties
A Child Welfare Caseworker works with families affected by abuse, neglect, or dependency issues to address safety, permanency, and well-being of children.
Qualifications and Skills
Applicant must meet the minimum requirements for a Child Welfare Caseworker per ORC 5153.112 which states the following:
(A) A public children services agency may hire as a caseworker only the following:
(1) A person who has a bachelor's degree in human services-related studies;
(2) A person who has a bachelor's degree in any field and has been employed for at least two years in a human services-related occupation;
(3) A person who has an associate's degree in human services-related studies
(4) A person who has been employed for at least five years in a human services-related occupation.
(B) For employment to continue, a person described in division (A)(2), (3), or (4) of this section must obtain a job-related bachelor's degree not later than five years after the date employment with the agency commences.
The position further requires the following skills and certifications:
- Must fully accept the vision and mission of the agency.
- Must be self-motivated and able to manage a schedule of conflicting demands.
- Must be able to form effective working relationships with children and families.
- Must be able to work mandated flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Must be willing and able to work the after -hours emergency system on an occasional basis (Intake positions).
- Must be able to coordinate a variety of service providers.
- Must have a working knowledge of the sources of behavior problems in children.
- Must understand the counseling process.
- Must be able to plan for the specific needs of families and children.
- Must have a working knowledge of agency and state policies and procedures.
- Must be meticulous and punctual in documentation.
- Must have an awareness of and a commitment to the meeting of deadlines.
- Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
- Must understand the urgency of and advocate for permanency for children.
- Must have a good working knowledge of community resources.
- Must have a good driving record.
