Manage ocean freight contracts, carrier relations, and freight payment while ensuring compliance with international shipping regulations.
What You'll Do
- Monitor company and carrier compliance with transportation laws and regulations
- Prepare for contract negotiations; process ocean carrier contracts and amendments
- Assign carriers to vendors based on contracts, volume, and demand
- Analyze carrier performance and recommend solutions for space issues
- Prepare and send monthly forecasts to ocean carriers
- Approve and coordinate ocean freight payments; ensure accurate invoicing
- Review freight statements and resolve billing discrepancies
- Train international vendors on container shipping processes
- Stay current on global market conditions, import/export regulations, and industry changes
- Drive process improvements and maintain standard operating procedures
- Associate degree in Business or related field, or equivalent experience
- 3 years experience in import logistics and/or transportation
- Strong understanding of international environment, transportation, and logistics
- Basic understanding of customs regulations and requirements
- Strong negotiation skills and attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (heavy Excel use)
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently
