Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Chemical Operator to join our team at our Summerville, SC location. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the production department. This position will report to the Production Manager.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Operate mobile and other equipment, including forklifts, as necessary to unload, store, and handle raw materials in dry or liquid form; and package/ship finished product.
- Batch processing, including catalysts, inhibitors, and other materials as necessary to maintain interruption-free process operation.
- Perform basic and preventive maintenance and inspections, including equipment cleaning, lubrication, condition monitoring, making routine adjustments, and performing/assisting with selected basic maintenance tasks.
- Apply troubleshooting, problem-solving, and continuous improvement strategies as necessary to resolve variances, optimize efficiency, and control cost.
- Process/material samples; perform specified routine tests, and record/interpret test results as required.
- Observe safe work practices in performing all duties at all times and maintain standards of excellence in housekeeping.
- Operate the plant’s DCS-based Control System and various PLC/other controls.
In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Ability to manually lift/handle weights of up to 55 lbs. repeatedly for periods of up to 2 hours at a time, and up to 4 periods/shift.
- Available to work 12-hour rotating shift.
Professional communication skills (both oral and written) and excellent interpersonal skills; team player.
- Successful completion of medical examination and drug testing.
The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:
- Batch chemical processing experience
- Basic computer proficiency
