Position Title Safety Services Operations Manager Job Description
The Operations Manager position is a full-time position that reports directly to the Director of Safety Services. The Operations Manager has working knowledge of all positions in the Safety Services department and is expected to stay current on all shift responsibilities. The Operations Manager is responsible for administering the University Parking Plan and background check processing and can administer departmental operations in the director’s absence.
- Support the mission, goals and objectives of AU and the department.
- Assist the campus community in a constructive, effective and positive manner.
- Maintain departmental confidentiality.
- Initiate emergency response as necessary.
- Manage security cameras and back up video for judicial and other requests.
- Working knowledge of departmental software programs (i.e. Blackboard, Campus Shield, Colleague, Microsoft Office Outlook, Coursedog, etc.)
- Must be able to effectively respond to all types of emergency and routine service calls.
- Supervise professional and student staff and assist in any necessary investigatory processes.
- Develop training and procedural manuals for officers and dispatchers.
- Supervise the training of new staff and ongoing training of all staff.
- Assist the director in maintaining compliance documentation for the US Department of Education.
- Coordinate safety programming initiatives for the campus community.
- Meet regularly with the director.
- Uphold and enforce the departmental and University policies.
- Assist the director with Title IX investigation reports.
- Any task as assigned by the director.
- Perform administrative duties such as departmental Budgeting/Accounting functions, staff scheduling and payroll processing, and log management.
- Manage the campus Parking Plan and administration.
- Administer the University Background Check program i(both BCI and FBI) including fingerprinting and departmental billing.
- Prior experience in administrative management or support
- Able to effectively communicate in person, over the phone and using departmental radios
- Generating reports using basic office programs and university programs
- Familiarity with security camera systems
- Supervising and scheduling professional and student staff
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills
- Customer service oriented with the ability to deal with multiple constituencies (faculty, technicians, vendors, University departments, etc.)
- Must thrive in a team environment
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning required
- Prior experience working in a security related field.
- Experience in Higher Education or administering university policies
- Must be able function effectively in stressful situations (i.e. situations involving conflict, medical emergencies, fire alarms, crowd control, etc.)
- Must be able to work in a noisy office environment and monitor scanners and radio traffic
- Must be able to provide service to customers at the Safety Services counter.
