Job Summary
This position is a part-time, seasonal position of up to 25 hours/week from September through May each academic year and is directly responsible to the program director and natural resources assistant. The Education & Outreach Assistant provides primary implementation in conservation education and outreach efforts throughout the school year to promote Ashland Soil and Water Conservation District and Ashland County Solid Waste District school-age programming and educational principles while working closely with other district staff to accomplish program goals and objectives. Hours for this position will vary seasonally.
Essential Functions:
The Education & Outreach Assistant professionally works toward the following objectives:
Deliver exceptional educational outreach on conservation issues: 90%
- Establish and utilize the Hazel Willis Woods as an impactful outdoor learning laboratory for residents of Ashland County.
- Conduct hands-on education events to educate Ashland County residents about soil and water conservation issues and best management practices, and well as solid waste issues and best management practices and programs, with a special emphasis on school-age outreach and programming, including Arbor Day, Envirothon, County Soils Judging, Recycling drives and other youth education programs.
- Serve as an agricultural and conservation leader and advocate In our community.
- Assist with volunteer program for Ashland SWCD, including providing training as needed.
Provide administrative support to assist in achieving conservation goals: 10%
- Maintain knowledge of current conservation topics, events and activities.
- Maintain exceptional staff performance and communication through staff meetings, accurate time keeping, and other administrative support as needed.
- Assist in conducting efficient & effective board meetings for Ashland SWCD by providing timely reports and other requested information for monthly meetings.
- Support responsible stewardship of public funds entrusted to Ashland SWCD.
- Assist as needed in providing exceptional leadership for the Ashland County Planning Commission through efficient enforcement & administration of county subdivision regulations.
Other duties as assigned, including assistance in responding to emergent ag pollution complaints as needed.
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
