    Position: Speech-Language Pathology Assistant

    Work Site: Student Services
    Hours/FTE: 1.0 FTE/ 8 hours per day; Probationary
    Salary: $26.47 - $33.19 (2025-26 Salary Schedule; 2026-27 Salary Schedule to be determined)

    JOB SUMMARY
    This position assists the SLP in providing communication services to children in an instructional setting with primary emphasis on direct contact with students.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.
    1. Provide services in support of Speech Language Pathologist within guidelines provided in Oregon Administrative rules (OAR's) and other applicable laws and regulations.
    2. Provide direct therapy to students, excluding dysphagia, following a treatment plan and protocol developed by the supervising SLP.
    3. Conduct speech language and hearing screenings without interpretation.
    4. Implement planned activities and maintain discipline in individual and small student groups using SLP designed methods and materials.
    5. Implement Individual Education Plan (IEP) modifications under direction from SLP.
    6. Documents student weekly progress without interpretation toward established objectives.
    7. Conducts speech language and hearing screenings without interpretation.
    8. Under supervision of the SLP, participate in 504 and IEP planning meetings as needed.
    9. Maintain confidentiality of students and families.
    10. Maintain safe environment for students at all times.
    11. Assist SLP as needed in instructional setting, record keeping, reporting, and complying with District policy and relevant state/federal reporting requirements.
    12. Support SLP in the development and implementation of instructional materials and lesson planning.
    13. Support all SLP functions using a variety office equipment and computer programs.
    14. Communicate effectively with supervising SLP, ASD staff, students and families.
    15. Comply with all safety and work rules, policies and procedures.
    16. Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.
    17. Professionally represent the schools and the District in interactions with families, community, staff, and students.
    18. Maintain effective working relationships with ASD staff including appropriate communication and working to resolve conflict.
    19. Maintain appropriate certifications and training hours.
    20. Attend work regularly and is punctual.
    21. Attend and respectfully participate during in-service trainings and staff meetings.
    22. Annually pass the District's required online training by the District's assigned due-date.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
    • Education and Experience: Must be at least 18 years old. Must have completed an accredited speech language pathology assistant program. Previous SLPA experience in an education setting preferred.
    • License/Certification: Current valid Oregon SLPA Licensure.
    • Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal and written communication; values and ensures inclusion of all voices. Works well with diverse communities; focuses on resolving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening without interrupting; remains calm and open to others in tense or difficult situations.
    • Computer Skills: General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use database software, e-mail, internet software, spreadsheets, and word processing software.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand for prolonged periods of time; walk; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste and smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception and peripheral vision.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student activities. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions and outdoor weather conditions. Employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.
