- Acts as the coordinator in organizing and assigning crew duties as stipulated by the Head Custodian.
- Acts as the contact person when problems arise in the absence of the Head Custodian.
- Contacts appropriate school/district personnel (Head Custodian, Principal, District Lead Maintenance) when situations call for further notification. Is responsible for reporting information to the Head Custodian regarding the condition of the physical plant, performance of equipment, and situations requiring special attention.
- Responds quickly and decisively to emergencies and unusual circumstances.
- Cleans windows, adjusts drapes and blinds; dusts and cleans classrooms and office; sweeps, mops, scrubs, seals and waxes floors; vacuums rugs; cleans chalkboards, woodwork and walls; replaces lights and tubes; cleans counter tops, desks and table tops; collects and empties wastebaskets; arranges desks and furniture.
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and locker rooms, water fountains; washes mirrors and removes graffiti from restroom walls and toilet stalls; scrubs and wet mops restroom floors; fills soap, towel, and toilet paper dispensers.
- Sets up tables, chairs, and bleachers for athletic events, school lunch, school dances, and other school activities; puts away furniture and cleans up room, gym, stadium, theater, or other facility (as part of a custodial crew or individually).
- Performs minor building maintenance and grounds work; sweeps and hoses down outside sidewalks; picks up paper and debris on the school premises; cleans out clogged water fountains and sinks; reports such damage or maintenance tasks that require major repair.
- Is responsible for final building security at the end of a shift. Closes and locks windows, classroom doors, and building doors, turns off lights as required for security; maintains equipment used in the course of work.
- Notifies supervisors of accident hazards that are not repairable; removes hazards, if possible; practices safe work procedures.
- As part of the summer custodial crew or individually, participates in the complete cleaning of school buildings, including preparation of floors and rugs, washing and painting of facilities and furnishings, replacing floor tiles, and recaulking of windows.
- Assists the Head Custodian in coordinating the activities of others and assigns duties to others.
- Participates in service and staff development programs as required.
- Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
- Attends work regularly and is punctual.
- Annually pass the District's required online training by the District's assigned due-date.
- Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED). One year of custodial experience at a level equivalent to a custodian; or substituting coursework or training in janitorial, maintenance, and supervision for up to six months of the experience. Ability to perform a wide variety of maintenance and repair work, and make repairs and adjustments to structures and equipment.
- Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Ability to interact with students, staff, and parents appropriately. Creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere for students and staff.
- Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and governmental regulations. Ability to follow written directions.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations.
- Computer Skills: General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use e-mail, database, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
- Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, administrators, parents, and members of the community. Ability to exercise good judgment on a moment's notice to protect the safety and welfare of students.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Certificates as determined by the District, including the ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card and a valid Oregon driver's license. Previous hazardous materials and asbestos training preferred.

JOB SUMMARY:
To assist the Head Custodian in the planning, coordinating, and participating in the work of maintaining and improving school district facilities for the safe, attractive, clean, and efficient learning and working environment of students and staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Follows and maintains knowledge of all applicable District policy(ies) and procedures.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
