Job Title: Baseball Head Coach

Assignment: Ashland High School

Reports To: Athletics Director / Building Principal

FLSA Status: Stipend / Extra Duty Position

Salary: $5,699 - $6,735

Job Summary

The Head Baseball Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the school's baseball program. This includes developing student-athletes' skills, promoting sportsmanship and teamwork, and ensuring a safe, positive, and competitive environment. The coach provides leadership for the program, oversees assistant coaches, and ensures compliance with district and state regulations.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Plan, organize, and conduct all practices, games, and team activities.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive baseball program aligned with school and district goals.
  • Teach fundamental and advanced baseball skills, strategies, and conditioning.
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive character development.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies and regulations from governing bodies such as the Oregon School Activities Association.
  • Organize and supervise tryouts, team selection, and player development.
  • Monitor academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes.
  • Coordinate game schedules, travel, and equipment needs in collaboration with the Athletics Department.
  • Maintain and inventory equipment, uniforms, and facilities.
  • Communicate effectively with players, families, staff, and administration.
  • Represent the school positively within the community and at all events.
  • Support offseason conditioning, camps, and program development as appropriate.
  • Assist with fundraising efforts and program promotion.
  • Understands and complies with applicable District policies and procedures.
  • Attend work regularly and is punctual.
  • Annually pass the District's required online training by the District's assigned due-date.
  • While working collaboratively with others, implements decisions within ASD established policies and procedures.
  • Professionally represent the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students and resolves conflict in a professional manner.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and team events.
  • Provide leadership and direction to assistant coaches and volunteers.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and proper use of equipment.
  • Monitor and address student behavior in alignment with school expectations.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision ratios and ensure student safety at all times.
  • Participate in the evaluation and development of assistant coaching staff.

  • Ability to teach and develop baseball skills at various levels.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and injury prevention.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student development.

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience playing and/or coaching baseball .
  • Knowledge of baseball fundamentals, rules, and coaching techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively with high school students.

Preferred

  • Prior head coaching or leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of OSAA rules, policies, and postseason requirements.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Teaching license or school-based experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others including understanding and being understood. While much of the work will be completed in an office environment, the employee will need to move between buildings, visiting sites throughout the district. This position requires use of a variety of digital systems, software, and hardware. This position may require some travel outside the district.
