Nursery General Laborer
Job Summary
Ashland Greenhouses has been known for locally grown, region specific plants since 1906. We grow 100% of the plant starts we sell. All of our plants are selected to do well in our unique climate. We are open to the public and serve individual gardeners, landscapers, and businesses. We also ship wholesale orders to independent garden centers, nurseries, and flower shops.
As a Greenhouse Laborer, you will assist in moving plants from one area to another, filling containers with soil, planting, tagging, moving/hauling soil, lifting and hanging planted baskets, and other general labor tasks. This job requires the physical ability to perform a multitude of labor-intensive jobs.
*Positions are seasonal for spring, and depending on the weather typically end June*
Job Responsibilities
While working responsibilities will include:
- Lift repeatedly over an 8-hour day from ground to head level and place from head to ground level (up to 20 lbs)
- Carrying and lifting flats (about 10 lbs. weight)
- Balancing/walking down narrow paths/aisles
- Operate an electric cart (often with a trailer) safely.
- Work with transplanting and pot filling machines
Skills
Some skills essential for the position are:
- Ability to work cooperatively with the other employees
- Ability to tolerate working outdoors in cold and hot conditions, loud noise, wind, and dust
- Functional knowledge of plant identification is helpful but not required
- Willingness to work flexible/variable hours ranging from 30 to 40 hours a week as the seasonal needs change. Production Crew operates weekdays Mon- Fri.
