What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marketing & Community Engagement Coordinator position at Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center?
Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Booking Manager and Production Manager, the Marketing & Community Engagement Coordinator supports Ashkenaz’s marketing, communications, audience engagement, and promotional efforts across digital platforms, community outreach, ticketing systems, and live events.
Ashkenaz is a nonprofit community music and dance venue with a 50 year history presenting multicultural arts programming, live music, dance, workshops, festivals, and educational events. We are seeking someone who is excited about independent music culture, grassroots arts organizing, and community-centered work.
This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, creative, adaptable, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced live event environment where priorities may shift quickly.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist in managing Ashkenaz’s social media presence across platforms
- Create and schedule engaging promotional content including graphics, reels, stories, videos, and event highlights
- Capture photo/video content during events as needed for future marketing use
- Collaborate with staff on creative marketing strategies for concerts, workshops, festivals, and community programs
- Help maintain a consistent and recognizable organizational voice and brand identity
- Build and distribute email campaigns, newsletters, and event announcements
- Assist with audience list management and database organization
- Help track email performance and audience engagement metrics
- Support ongoing audience growth and community engagement efforts
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date event information on Ashkenaz’s website and ticketing platforms
- Assist with artist information and promotional updates
- Ensure event listings are visually appealing, informative, and accurate
- Assist with grassroots promotional efforts, including community outreach, partnerships, and local event calendar submissions
- Help strengthen audience engagement across Ashkenaz’s diverse cultural and artistic communities
- Coordinate flyer distribution and assist with volunteer outreach efforts as needed
- Represent Ashkenaz professionally and warmly in community interactions
- Respond to basic marketing-related inquiries via email and phone
- Assist with promotional mailings and distribution efforts
- Support internal communication and coordination between departments
- Maintain organized digital files and marketing records
- Assist with marketing support for special events, festivals, and fundraising campaigns
- Help compile basic analytics and reports on marketing performance and audience engagement
- Coordinate promotional materials and branded merchandise inventory
- Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1-2 years of experience in marketing, communications, social media, events, or related fields preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience creating graphics and short-form digital content
- Familiarity with Canva and social media scheduling tools
- Proficiency in Google Workspace applications
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Ability to take initiative, problem solve independently, and adapt to changing priorities
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced nonprofit environment
- Interest in multicultural arts programming, community engagement, and independent live music culture strongly preferred
- Photography, videography, copywriting, or live event marketing experience is a plus
- Familiarity with platforms such as Squarespace, Constant Contact, Eventbrite, VenuePilot, or Meta Business Suite is a plus
- Part-Time (approximately 15-25 hours per week, depending on organizational needs and candidate availability)
- Flexible scheduling with some hybrid remote work possible
- Some evening and weekend availability is helpful, particularly during festivals, special events, and fundraising campaigns
- Based in Berkeley, CA
- Compensation dependent on experience
