I. Purpose 

The Director, Credentialing Assessments advances ASHA’s mission and public health by ensuring the relevance and effectiveness of credentialing assessments.  This role leads efforts to develop and evaluate credentialing assessments that support credentialing best practices, certification accreditation standards, the needs of communication sciences and disorders professionals, and the public.  This position works directly with vendors who perform exam development and administration functions to ensure optimal performance.  

II. Key Responsibilities 

  1. Assessment Strategy & Innovation
    • Lead development and implementation of strategic plans for ASHA's credentialing assessments.
    • Conduct and apply research to align assessments with ASHA’s mission and emerging trends.
  2. Vendor & Program Oversight
    • Manage vendor relationships to ensure high-quality assessment development and delivery.
    • Monitor and evaluate assessment performance and implement improvements.
    • Ensure that ASHA assessments and policies are non-biased, promote fairness, and are equitable for all. 
  3. Accreditation & Standards
    • Oversee adherence to National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and other relevant accreditation standards.
    • Develop policies and procedures that ensure quality and compliance.
  4. Volunteer & Constituent Engagement
    • Recruit, onboard, and develop volunteer contributors to the assessment process.
    • Provide timely reports and data to support internal and external constituents.

III. Position within ASHA 

The Director, Credentialing Assessments reports to the Chief Certification Officer.  This position does not have any direct reports at this time.  

IV. Autonomy & Decision Making: 

The Director, Credentialing Assessments and Chief Certification Officer work collaboratively to lead activities related to development, implementation, analysis and communicating of ASHA’s credentialing assessments. The incumbent receives broad work direction, objectives and is given broad latitude to determine approaches, procedures, and methodology to accomplish work responsibilities in accordance with policies and procedures of the Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, the Association, and the National Office. Guidance and review are provided by the Chief Certification Officer.

V. Qualifications & Skills

Qualifications: 

Knowledge typically acquired through: 

  • At least 7 years of progressive experience in credentialing, certification, or assessment development, including managing assessment programs or vendor relationships.
  • Institute of Credentialing Excellence – Certified Credentialing Professional (ICE-CCP) certification preferred 
  • Experience in applying for initial or revalidation of ANSI or NCCA or similar accreditation programs.
  • A degree in Business, Communications, Psychometrics, Statistics, Public Policy, or a related field.

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret complex statistical data to inform assessment development and performance measures.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with the ability to forecast assessment trends and align with organizational goals.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams and building consensus
  • Proficiency in managing vendor relationships and holding external partners accountable for quality and timeliness.
  • Skilled in using psychometric principles and data dashboards to inform decision-making.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including leading multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ANSI and/or NCCA accreditation standards.
