Job Title: Discovery Specialist / Certified Notary Public

Position Summary
The Discovery Specialist plays a key role in supporting attorneys in all aspects of the discovery process in family law matters, including divorce, custody, and support cases. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with strong organizational skills, knowledge of discovery rules and procedures in Missouri (Kansas a plus), and the ability to manage sensitive client information with discretion. As a certified Notary Public, the specialist will also perform notarial duties for client documents and affidavits as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Discovery Management
- Prepare, draft, and organize discovery requests, responses, and disclosures in compliance with applicable court rules and deadlines.
- Review and summarize financial documents, correspondence, and evidence relevant to family law cases.
- Maintain and update discovery logs, document production indexes, and case management databases.
- Coordinate with clients to collect and organize required financial and personal documents.
- Ensure timely service and filing of discovery materials.
Document Production & Review
- Identify, redact, and label confidential or privileged information appropriately.
- Assist attorneys with e-discovery processes, including data collection and document review platforms.
- Manage physical and digital files to ensure accessibility and accuracy throughout the case lifecycle.
Notary Services
- Perform notarial acts including witnessing signatures, administering oaths, and verifying document authenticity.
- Maintain a current notary commission in compliance with state regulations.
- Accurately record all notarial acts in accordance with applicable laws.
Administrative & Legal Support
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel regarding discovery matters.
- Track discovery deadlines and provide reminders to attorneys and paralegals.
- Assist with preparing exhibits for hearings, mediations, depositions, and trials.
- Support attorneys with general case organization and file management.
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a law firm, preferably in family law.
- Proven experience managing discovery in civil or family law cases.
- Active Notary Public commission in the state of Missouri.
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology, discovery rules, and court procedures.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and legal case management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase, or similar).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate.
- Experience with e-discovery tools and digital document management systems.
- Familiarity with local court rules and electronic filing systems.
