Job Summary
We are seeking dedicated and knowledgeable Part Time Faculty members to join our academic team. The ideal candidates will possess a strong background in their respective fields and demonstrate a passion for teaching and mentoring high school students in higher education. This role involves delivering engaging undergraduate-level research projects in support of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at ASDRP.
Duties
- Lead undergraduate-level research projects in areas including Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Quantum Engineering, Robotics, and Manufacturing.
- Engage students through innovative teaching methods that incorporate technology and practical applications.
- Collaborate with faculty members to support student success and academic initiatives.
- Stay current with advancements in engineering fields and integrate relevant research into teaching practices.
Skills :
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles across various disciplines including Mechanical Design, CAD, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MATLAB, C , GD&T, Programmable Logic Controllers.
- Experience in curriculum development and adult education methodologies.
- Proven track record of effective teaching in higher education settings with classroom experience.
- Ability to engage students actively and foster a collaborative learning environment.
- Strong research skills with the ability to integrate findings into hands-on training.
- Excellent communication skills with experience working with diverse student populations.
- Familiarity with learning technologies that enhance educational experiences.
Qualifications
- Master's degree at minimum in mechanical, electrical, civil, or materials engineering. PhD or equivalent degree is preferred.
- 3 years R&D experience.

Position Overview
ASDRP seeks Part-Time Engineering Research Faculty in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering to lead original, student-centered research projects. The faculty member will design and supervise rigorous engineering research while mentoring high school and undergraduate students through the full research lifecycle, from problem formulation and modeling to validation, documentation, and dissemination.
Key Responsibilities
- Conceive, design, and lead original research projects in mechanical, electrical, civil, or aerospace engineering
- Mentor students in engineering fundamentals, modeling, simulation, experimental design, and/or prototyping
- Supervise data collection, computational modeling, laboratory or design-build activities, and validation studies
- Guide students in technical documentation, reports, and preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals or conferences
- Conduct regular research meetings and provide structured feedback on student progress
- Ensure research rigor, reproducibility, and safety standards appropriate to the discipline
- Collaborate with ASDRP faculty across disciplines, including applied mathematics, computer science, and data science
- Contribute to the growth of ASDRP’s engineering research portfolio and help establish best practices for student-led engineering research
Qualifications
- PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated research or applied engineering experience, evidenced by publications, patents, or significant technical projects
- Strong foundation in analytical, computational, or experimental engineering methods
- Experience mentoring students or junior researchers
- Commitment to ASDRP’s mission of research access, mentorship, and educational excellence
- Ability to work effectively in a part-time, flexible, and primarily remote environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with computational tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, CAD/CAE, FEA, CFD, circuit simulation, or control systems)
- Experience guiding student projects to conference presentations, publications, or design competitions
- Industry or translational research experience
- Interest in interdisciplinary research or societally relevant engineering challenges (e.g., sustainability, infrastructure, aerospace systems, robotics, energy)
Time Commitment & Compensation
- Expected commitment of approximately 5–10 hours per week (flexible)
- Compensation commensurate with experience and scope of responsibilities
- Faculty appointment with authorship opportunities on resulting publications or technical outputs
